Why would Google be afraid of the Apple Watch? They aren't afraid of iPhone. They make more revenue from iOS than they do from Android. It will just be more of the same - Google app for Apple Watch will be launched in no time.

Oh c'mon. You're smarter than that.

A great many people still buy them that way.

I just wanted to say that I thought this was a well-written, well-reasoned piece. Good job.

Then they're morons, no? Unless you forgot to put the word 'subsidized' in quotes.

(I'd add the same comment to the person who keeps giving you a thumbs up).

Geez, go on a little bit will ya (article)? ha! No that about sums it up tho, but I guess you're getting a watch.

I am just glad about one thing. That Apple came out and decided when THEY wanted to make this product and wen to release. Interestingly, I think this will be a huge victory for NET Mankind. Meaning all of the people who believe that "Being First" is the Best and Most important thing in business and tech, will be shut down, after Apple reintegrates and reinvigorates a whole business category/market.

Products done right, and it shows that even when they ARE first and they are overwhelmingly successful, the product must be exceptional, such as Mac OS X compared to Linux (all things considered), iPod to other Media Players, and lastly iPhone, to pretty much any other smartphone when it comes to SECURITY and peace of mind, but not to leave out this whole ecosystem.

Yeah Fanboy whatever, Go Patriots (<-not me)? But we're all fanboys of something so get a life, Microsoft, Google, Sony, Samsung, Dallas Cowboys, Lakers, etc blah blah haha

    Laters...

Are you suggesting that buying a subsidized phone on AT&T or Verizon is stupid? I want a first class network and as far as I know they do not offer any discounts for buying the phone outright? What am I missing?

Being able to replace the internals of a $349 watch isn't so important.  But it's a different story when the watch costs north of $10,000.  Isn't that obvious?
Well I guess my analogy would have been better if there were solid gold iPhones.
Out of that 10,000 dollars spent, 9500 is spent on gold.
Perhaps a huge outcry of high rollers will make Apple reconsider.

Buying a subsidized iPhone isn't stupid if that is really the cheapest way to get what you want (it is for many), but a smart person will realize that the total cost of ownership is many times more than the subsidized price.

I still stand by what I said at the original ?Watch announcement.

It's just not that revolutionary and it's functions can be achieved by a garbage android.

    It's design is old.

The digital crown looks tedious and annoying to use. I hope it's not.

It needs to be tethered to iPhone to function.

I was hoping to see an iPod/iPhone/iPad scale revolution :(

Note: I DID NOT say it wouldn't sell. I DID NOT say it should run android.

As we've recently learned, nor is Tim Cook.

Tim Cook isn't a Jobs wannabe.

    Morons I swear...

This article started out being about who's afraid of Apple Watch then went way off into left field about Google's lack of worker rights. This author would benefit from learning how to write concise, focused articles. Anyone can drivel on mindlessly.

In case anyone doubts this, the Gettysburg Address was 278 words. This story is 4,727 words. One writing is from a U.S. President about a great battle of a long war that tore our country apart, the other is from a blogger about a watch. If this guy had wrote the Gettysburg Address, no one would have stuck around to the end or would have remembered it a day later.

But let's please stop telling people they can't express themselves,

Buying an iPhone because you think (or someone thinks) it is 'subsidized' by Verizon or ATT is, indeed, stupid.

Unless you have trouble understanding the word 'subsidy' in relation to the word 'discount.'

Perhaps I am a bit thick. If AT&T charges me the  same monthly fee for a phone out of contract, which technically I own, why should I continue? For $200 down payment I can have the latest technology and even sell my old phone for $100, even further reducing the cost, as opposed to paying $650 out of pocket and still pay the exact same monthly price. I'm not that good with math so please explain it in layman's terms.

That would make all of us morons, because we've all purchased phones that way.

Perhaps you are. If you're continuing to pay out-of-contract for ATT after your contract is up, I am afraid you must fall into the not-so-smart category of consumer. See, for example, http://www.cnet.com/news/at-t-now-you-pay-less-for-a-no-contract-phone-plan/

It's always a good idea to try and get good at math, at least to some extent.

If you think you got a 'subsidy' from ATT or Verizon since you 'purchased phones that way' (since, after all, you claimed earlier that an iPhone gets 'subsidized'), yes, you would be one. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

I'm with Verizon and I'm still paying the subsidized price because I still have unlimited data. I've checked every single plan, and their new plans still end up being more for less. If that makes me a moron then I'll proudly wear that badge.

Dude, that was a joke. I am an expert in math. My mother was a math professor at my university so I had to be very proficient at it. You are going to have to do better than that for an explanation. I always renew my iPhone every two years for the exact reasons explained.

I'm not sure that it will work out that way (but, hey, what do I know!). There'll always be a market for mechanical/non-smart watches, and funnily enough the Apple Watch has made me more interested in wearing a watch than I have been for years. I'll definitely get an Apple Watch at some stage, but I'm also looking at some watches that are out there these days, other than the usual brands, such as those by www.autodromo.com

Why do you feel it is your job to warn people? You don't like it for whatever reason. Why should we care?

I won't get one because I can't even afford the monthly fees of an iPhone. I just can't understand why some spew such venom. They'll say it's not jealousy or envy but they feel compelled to warn everyone else. You sound like a PC fraud. (Why should we care about your predictions?) What if you are totally wrong, will you come back on here and admit it or will you try to justify your errors. Most of us won't care and we hope you don't come back.
