apparantly the two have press conferences next Tuesday. Sculley's is suppose to be a major announcement while Jobs' may not be anything significant

Sculley will be introducing a new and unique technology that will be well received...
...While Steve Jobs will be announcing that Sculley is a "Big Poopie-Head..."
No... really... I have no idea what it will be... but hopefully it's a nice glimpse of the future. Glove? iCam of sorts...? 10.1.5? RAID boxes ready...? Xserve shipping...? Who the heck knows...? But like most of you (SOME of you?) I will be eagerly anticipating the news... just like every OTHER anouncement they make.
(man... am I pathetic...) [that was rhetorical... no need to comment]

Maybe Jobs announcement now becomes more significant.
I can't see Steve letting that pussie Sculley get top billing.
How on earth does John Sculley come out of the woodwork with a new technology preview without any rumor sites picking up the scent?
We have The Register, MOSR, SpyMac, Think Secret and AI (though AI no longer has a front page!) Not to mention the Naked Mole Rat and Matthew Rothenberg. An entire industry devoted to rumors and Tech News and NOBODY saw this coming?
If none of these sites have sources that can notice John Sculley moving around in Silicon Valley, how can anyone expect to get any accurate reading of what Apple is up to?

He was CEO during the eighties, and according to industry lore, heard about a plot by Jobs to fire him. In a boardroom coup he managed to get Jobs thrown out.
The young Jobs may have been a tyrant, but he's always known a good product and strategy when he sees one.
If Apple had kept Jobs the way Microsoft has had Gates at the helm all these years, we might have had a more competitive OS market today.

It's fun to speculate WWF style on these two, but the word "anticlimax" keeps popping into my head. I'll tell you this much: Sculley's announcement might be important but it won't have legs, and Jobs' announcement will be ridiculed by most the Mac fan boards. But that's not a prediction as much as a truism.

Hey you're almost at 1000.. congrats!
Sculley opposed the creation of the Newton.

I don't care about Sculley one way or the other, but you are wrong about him and the Newton. The Newton was his pet project, and its financial failure was what led to his resignation.
But I'm sure there is someone else here who can explain things better than I. Suffice to say that Scully is your typical American businessman who cares nothing about the quality of the product and everything about short term profits, personal gain in money and power, and he has a special place in his heart for bean counters. Just the sort of guy you'd want to have a beer with!
It was Scully who gave Microsoft the rights to copy the Mac GUI. I don't remember the details, but essentially Scully traded a promise for continued Excel for Mac development, for the right to use the Mac GUI's "look and feel". The funny part is that it was probably not intentional, since the clause was buried in some legal document by Microsoft....meaning that Scully is an incompetent fool.

Or some Pepsi Blue.
But I haven't seen any coverage of a Sculley announcement.
Anybody got the goods?
