Pokemon will kill you...

Molecular biologists have discovered the 'master switch' for cancer. It is a gene that they've named 'Pokemon'. I hate Yu-Gi-Yo, Pokemon and all (that I've seen so far) forms of Japanese Animation. Hence, I -
a.) believe the title of this thread to be the truth not only for your body, but for your mind.
b.) rejoice in the fact that The Great Killer of Our Age is a large step closer to having its balls trampled (figuratively speaking).

Your logic, as I understand it:
I don't like it, so it it makes people stupid when they consume it.
So to extend it to stuff that I dislike:
Sweet Potato is the killer of the ages.

Um, no, I don't think he said that.
...I hate Yu-Gi-Yo, Pokemon and all (that I've seen so far) forms of Japanese Animation. Hence, I -

I think that is exactly what he said.

No. He implied that Pokemon will kill your mind. That doesn't mean you will be stupid because you consume it. He mentioned nothing of stupidity.

So we just disagree about how quickly he thinks
it will kill your mind.
I assumed that he meant that it will gradually
erode your cognative functions (i.e. less functional
brain, or stupidity), and you think that he implied
immediate brain death.
BTW - here is how to get your kids to stop playing
Pokemon, if you dislike it:
My oldest daughter started collecting Pokemon cards, and
when I noticed that they were a card game, I started
collecting them as well so that we could play together.
She lost interest soon after I took an interest, so
we play backgammon instead.

No, I assumed he was speaking metaphorically.

And what did you think his metaphorical point was?

That Pokemon is a waste of cognitive function in that it adds nothing to your understanding or appreciation of the world. Like saying MTV will rot your brain.
Sometimes scientists are joking in the way they name genes. It's not the first time, they give a weird name to genes.
That's said, this is a very important discoverie in medecine. The pokemon gene regulate many others genes, and especially one who is fighting against tumoral cell. The pokemon gene, inhibate this fighting tumor gene.
The pokemon gene, at least, can leat to two important medical progress :
- the possibility to announce at advance the born of a cancer, by checking the activity of the gene. If pokemon is sleeping : good for you. Otherwise, time for an extansive check up, because the sooner you cure a cancer, the more chance to be cured you have.
- New drugs
I am seriously convinced that we will see huge progress in curing the cancer in the next coming decades. Perhaps the cancer that will kill you today, won't kill you tomorrow. There is hope
The Pokemon is stupid cancer skit!
Let's have a round of applause for e1618978, hardeeharhar and Powerdoc!
Thanks, boys!
Pokemon stands for POK erythroid myeloid ontogenic factor.

Just like sweet potato - oh how I hate it.

You, sir or madam, are an incisive mind. It is a pleasure to know that my posts are read by intellects as perceptive as yours.

Yes, scientists like to joke, there is various examples.
Naming this gene Pokemon, is an easy way to remind the name of this gene. Unfortunately, it focuse people on stupid discussion about waste of mind, rather than focusing on a real advance in medical research.
