  • Google I/O 2016: Android's Instant Apps seek to solve a key mobile problem

Most of my searches are done using DuckDuckGo these days.  It's my default.  Our really is quite good enough.  I would rather have 1 relevant page then 50 pages of Google crap with ad's all over.
I also use DuckDuckGo as my default, but primarily for privacy.  But, In no way would I claim that DuckDuckGo is remotely close to the search capabilities of Google.  If I am searching for a particular article on a certain subject, then I'll simply use Google as it's vastly more precise and quicker for me to do so.

  • Apple moving to 3-year 'major' iPhone cycle, adding complex vibrations to 2017 model - report

Moving to a 3 yr cycle will significantly reduce the incentive to upgrade and average lifespan for an iPhone will increase. So, from that standpoint, it's hard to see how Apple would move to that knowing it might impact sales.

A company of Apple' resources doesn't face an either/or choice when it comes to hardware or services. Apple user base will ensure a level of success regardless but Apple's cloud services lag far behind that of the competition and to address that Apple requires expertise and a culture shift.
  • WWDC 2016: Apple's Siri and the future of voice vs. Amazon's Alexa Echo, Google Now, Microsoft Cort

Siri is just dreadful. When it works (yes, even on Wifi), it's voce recognition is dreadful compared to Google and Alexa (haven't tried Cortana) and it frequently gets things wrong.  More often than not, it doesn't return answers (unless they have been coded in), just gives you websites to look up. It's dumb. Apple has done very little with it for 5 years and it has fallen far behind. Anything new Apple offers with Siri will probably be tied to new hardware which is understandable but I'm certainly not going to be inclined to pay up for a new device if they are attempting to see it to me on Siri, when I have had such poor experiences with it in the past.
