  • Kuo: 'Apple Car' likely to launch in 2023 to 2025, fuel $2 trillion company valuation

Kuo actually sounds about right although I think it could be sooner.
5G will start to deploy any time now.  Significant VR and autonomous car testing has been done and some patents have been filed.
The whole integrated package including electrification, autonomous driving of newly architected vehicles and ride sharing needs to be tested extensively.

I have a feeling that some of Apple Physical Car's hardware work is being done at zoox.  ( zoox.com )
About a year ago, 17 Apple car engineers joined zoox together as a group and I think Apple may have arranged that move.  Not sure who is funding them.
Zoox is extremely secretive and they appear to use autonomous technology that is patented by Apple like map-less autonomous driving.

Check out their "crab like" 4 wheel steering capable test cars.

  • Squad of Apple car staffers jump ship to self-driving startup Zoox

It is a possibility that Apple allowed their auto engineers an easy transition to Zoox knowing that they will use the their software in the future?
Seriously, that makes a lot of sense and that would be good for both companies.

From what I hear, Intel-MobilEye essentially has the entire car industry under it's belt as partners that contribute and share some data. (Volkswagen, BMW, Daimler, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Volvo, Toyota, Honda etc...)  Intel-MobilEye has level 1,2 and 3 essentially covered and are working on the more difficult levels 4 and 5 and  using crowd sourced HD Maps from all their partner's cars to help determine the drivable paths for un-marked roads.

I understand that the Google-Baidu 3D maps technology is not scalable as it is impossibly expensive to maintain globally and uses too much bandwidth to be practical.
( See 1st video between 8:00 and 20:00 from MobilEye 2016 CES, second video is 2017 CES.)

The core autonomous technology race will likely be between Intel-MobilEye and Apple Inc.  One main difference is that I think Apple will use low orbit satellites for dynamic HD maps to guide it's cars or planes etc.. ( Coherent Navigation anyone?  http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/05/18/how-coherent-navigation-can-help-apple-with-location-technology-and-talent  )  That would likely be much better than crowd source HD maps in terms of reliability, feasibility, consistency and security.  Not to mention that Apple's system will likely cover the vehicle end to end with options to override certain methods.  Time will tell.

So if Zoox builds cars based on Apple parts and core technologies, it would be awesome.
I wonder who funded Zoox the $290 million?

  • Nvidia buying ARM for record-breaking $40 billion

Unless Nvidia and Qualcomm can produce enough chips using the ARM micro architecture and instruction set architecture ( ISA ) to out gun Intel and AMD for desktops, laptops and servers, this will be a big mistake and SoftBank knows it.  All the big dogs like Apple, have their own micro architecture designs and only license the ISA from ARM.

Today, Apple has the best and most advanced custom designs by far...

The Apple CPUs are likely based on the PWRficient POWER PC design from P.A. Semi which Apple acquired in 2008.  The micro architecture design was by Daniel W. Dobberpulh of DEC Alpha and StrongARM fame.   PA Semi initially licensed the POWER PC ISA from IBM but switched to the ARM ISA after Apple bought them.  That design was further enhanced with Apple's purchase of Intrinsity in 2010.

    From Wikipedia
“Intrinsity’s main selling point was its Fast14 technology, a set of design tools implemented in custom EDAsoftware, for using dynamic logic and novel signal encodings to permit greater processor speeds in a given process than naive static design can offer.”

Here is a PA Semi presentation on the PWRficient processor.

  • UK may block Nvidia ARM acquisition due to national security concerns

My gut feeling tells me that there will be BIG problems if Nvidia is allowed to buy ARM.

In any case I believe that Apple is only using the Instruction Set Architecture from ARM and not the the silicon design.  Although they could use the ARM silicon if their own silicon designs were not way more advanced than ARM.

In fact the original design for Apple's chip by PA-Semi were called PWRficient and were designed to use the PowerPC Instruction Set from IBM but Apple switched to the ARM instruction set after the purchase.  See presentation below...

Here is another article on Apple's license.

  • Apple not a monopoly but must allow alternate payment methods for apps, judge rules

Apple should not appeal this ruling. Apple can just charge more to developers that chose to use external payment systems. And if developers don't like the price, they can go elsewhere. Time will tell.

  • Apple records first-ever accident in self-driving car program [u]

The Nissan that rear ends the Apple Car is at fault.

I cannot imagine any reason for rear end ending another car in front of you while going 15 miles per hour.
Even if the person cuts you off, you are at always at fault for rear ending.

At 15 miles an hour, you have to wonder if it was done on purpose.

I say make that Nissan Leaf's insurance pay for all the expensive Velodyne LiDAR sensors.  Could easily cost $100,000 or more in damages.

You've heard of the Surface right?
Sure, sure.  Of course I have.
That's why I too hope that MS contacts the 10 people whom are impacted by this leak and tell them to trash their device and get iPads and Macs.

  • Apple Vision Pro $3,499 mixed-reality headset launches at WWDC after years of rumors

Very interesting technology indeed.  Fovea based rendering and Spacial Frameworks sound like StarTrek Holodeck technology.
Considering that the Apple 32" monitor has a $5700 price tag, the $3499 for VisionPro does not look so bad.
This visionOS with AI capabilities may also be applicable for Cars, AirPlaines and Space shuttles amongst other things.

    Looking forward to more info.
