The reason has to do with perspective- a triangular arrangement provides the iPhone with 2D perspective capabilities versus the 1D provided by a horizontal or vertical arrangement. This should provide a better DOF estimation and more successful computational photography dependent on it, such as portrait mode. -

It's not ridiculous at all, or SCOTUS wouldn't have allowed it. It means there is at least some substantial chance the plaintiffs will prevail. -

Apple's iOS Contacts app claimed to be vulnerable to SQLite hack
The replaced a component of the Contacts app... assuming that language is precise, an unlocked phone isn't sufficient. While some parts of the file system are accessible via USB, they are restricted to the data partition and there is no way to tamper with an App without jailbreak and afc2 or something comparable.
