  • Hands On: WeatherKit for iPhone and iPad is a beautiful forecasting app for everyone

Not quite sure what weather information this developer pays for that requires a subscription fee to maintain. All the forecasts from NOAA/NWS can be aggregated for free. Even if they need model data for international forecasts the data from the NCEP GFS is also free.

I’m a weather enthusiast, and the Weather Underground app (free) paired with the RadarScope app (not free), is probably all you will ever need. WeatherKit is not a bad app but I’m just not sure what the subscription is actually for.

  • Apple's Mac mini now inexcusably getting trounced by cheap Intel hardware

Sometimes the simplest answer is the answer. There aren’t a whole lot of Mac mini’s being sold. The fact that they haven’t discontinued it yet means they are selling just enough of them to keep making them at the factory.

The current version of the mini is essentially a 2014 era 13” MacBook Pro in a mini form factor. Gut feeling is they upgrade the Mac mini at the next refresh of the MacBook Pro in 2018, and they continue to use the MacBook Pro as the template for the mini’s hardware.

  • Dell XPS 13 9370 vs. Apple's 13-inch MacBook Pro, the ultimate comparison

The only thing of interest that excites me in this article is the prospect of a quad core 13” MacBookPro coming later this year in a revision with the same battery life of a dual core. I really hope Apple offers it in both the touch bar and non touch bar models. That also gives me hope that a revised Mac Mini with a quad core will be made available as well, since the last version was essentially 13” MacBook Pro “guts” in a Mac Mini case.

  • Apple says all new iPhone apps must support iOS 11 SDK, iPhone X display as of April

...Can we blame developers for not wanting to upgrade apps, especially the free ones ?
    Yes. We can.

  • YouTube TV arrives on Apple TV after months-long delay

Call me an optimist, but I like Apple’s play here. Letting all these other companies come to the market first let’s them watch and figure out the best and worst aspects of these services. At the same time, having others offering this service will make it easier on Apple to enter the fray when it’s ready, since the media companies are determined to prevent another iTunes “monopoly” from occurring. The other option is Apple buys one of these streaming services outright when they are ready to get in. I’m guessing that whatever Apple does offer for streaming video will end up being a little more unique than what we are seeing now...
