Apple and Android users deserve better universal chat than Beeper mini
I understand that the US is very much iMessage / SMS / MMS based. With the bundled plans that include many of such messages as part of the plan.I have found that outside the US, many others have basically moved to different chat platforms.- WhatsApp
- Telegram
- Signal
- WeChat
- FB Messanger
- Line
Many of these are very country based.I realise that I have almost completely switched to these messaging platforms across both work and social. About the only time I use SMS / iMessage is when the bank or someone else is sending a 2FA message for verification. All the fuss around iMessage vs RCS vs the next default chat client seems tied to Telco plans and very much US centric. The rest of the world has moved on years ago. I do not have any friends who send SMS / iMessage anymore. -
Beeper Mini promises blue speech bubbles for Android users
I would like to share that from my experience, most people outside the US don’t really use iMessage or SMS for group chats.Almost everyone I know (including seniors in their late 70s), uses different chat apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal, WeChat, etc.
These chat platforms give unlimited messages, with text, voice, videos, media of all types. I’m hard pressed to understand all the stress around green bubble or blue bubble. Moreover SMS has a limited free messages depending on mobile plan. iMessage is close to other unlimited messages chat platforms.Almost no one I know uses SMS / iMessage except banks and other official organisations for 2FA. Increasingly, I have seen organisations moving to sending messages via WhatsApp and other Chat platforms - moving away from SMS / iMessage type of issues and discussions. This seems like a good solution for Android users to iPhone chat groups but beyond that use-case, it would be a non-starter outside of the US. Truly no one I know outside the US uses iMessage actively. -

Spotify legal chief doubles down on 'unfair' Apple App Store bullying claims
If that were indeed the case, then every other store faces the same situation. Walmart, Xbox, PlayStore, etc.I have subscribed to NetFlix and Spotify using the website and not thru IAP. In fact my TV subscription now bundles NetFlix and Disney+ so I don’t even need to bother with subscriptions to those 2 services.
