Well my Trash can't be emptied on 10.2.4, since everytime I choose Empty Trash the system tells me to restart my G4 - in several different languages no less.
This would qualify as annoying. I'm sure it's the UNIX thing, so I don't know if it's ever going to be fixed.
Ah well, at least my 400mhz machine can boot into 9.

NO SOUND, you can move volume up or down, won't change a thing.
And also, why oh why, this stupid 'put sound system to sleep while on batteries' continues? To save 3 minutes out of 3 hours?
This really sucks when you have to wait 3 sec for sound to play... (at least you can watch beach-ball spin,.....wait that's not really a good thing is it? )

You can fix that by inserting headphones, speakers, or any other 3.5mm audio plug into the headphone jack, and then removing them. Works every time for me.

I don't want to use 3rd party haxies 4 that.</strong><hr></blockquote>
1) Having view options on the desktop to show image file previews as icons results in icons that don't highlight when selected.
2) Having your dock at the bottom of the screen, if you CTRL-click to bring up a menu near the bottom of the screen, the menu text is scrolled out of visible site for no reason.
I'd be happy if the printer drivers could support all of the features that the printers are supposed to. This may not be all on OS X, but it's part of the problem. You know, like: "this printer slices! it dices! it prints using everlasting gobstopper technology! but only if you're using 9.2.2!"
<strong>1. When I create a new folder by pressing the shortcut while in Column View, an untitled folder appears, but its name is not editable (I mean its name doesn't automatically become a text box with all text selected). In icon/list views it works as expected.
</strong><hr></blockquote>
That's odd... when I type Command-N in column view, I get a new folder, with the name editable. Be thankful that you don't get this behavior, because it enables to a really bad bug I'm surprised they haven't fixed yet...
The Deleting-A-New-Folder-Deletes-The-Parent-Folder bug:
1) in column view, create a new folder in a dummy folder you don't care about
2) the new folder has a name that is immediately editable (at least on my system), BUT, if you send the new folder to the trash while the name is still editable (using a keyboard command or menu selection),
3) you send the parent folder (with all its contents) to the trash. Very very bad.
I guess it is not a bug, but one thing that really gets on my nerves is the "Unable to put disk away because it is in use" warning. For some reason, some applications don't let go all the time or crash or whatever. As it is right now I just have to start quitting apps until I stumble upon the right one. If the warning would just say "Unable to put disk away because it is in use by AppName" that would be nice.
I guess this is a thread for venting about UI mistakes as well as bugs.
I haven't found too many bugs in my normal use of OS X besides the network hanging bug, which seems laughably easy to fix (can't they just set a timeout)?
As for UI, I would like to see the Dock go bye-bye. I've gotten so that I can just barely use it (dual monitor setup with it on the far left, medium sized, with hiding/magnification off) but it doesn't help to launch or navigate applications, only to quickly see which ones I have currently running.
I want Mac OS 9-style open and save dialogs more than anything. Going through column view to find the right directory I want to save in is clunky as hell.
Note that Command-N only means "New Document" in document-based applications. It can mean New View, New Browser, or whatever else makes sense for the application, as long as it involves painting a window on screen. [/B]
There would be greater acceptance if Desktop shortcuts could be remapped to what the user wants.
Main complaints:
1. OS X is not fully backward compatible with all PPC Macs. (e.x. No floppy or modem drivers for G3 PBs)
2. Apple promotes DVD but ignores its functionality and even denies its use, like with externals.
3. As big as newer Mac drives are, the OS should come with a full featured integrated backup program.
4. Along with Safari and iMac, Apple needs to expand and provide all net services including ISP for the Mac community.
5. No ResEdit, for those that love to customize thier Programs.
6. Software Update needs to be alot smarter and be able to update different versions of programs for each MacOS on a system.
There would be greater acceptance if Desktop shortcuts could be remapped to what the user wants.
Which is code for "I want Mac OS 9 back," since OS 9 certainly did not allow Desktop shortcuts to be remapped.
It's not that hard to get used to the new Finder paradigm, and I'm glad that Apple had the guts to prefer consistency to legacy here.

2. I agree. This also defeats their argument that their machines are expandable via USB and FireWire. They can take the 5 minutes to add the code that allows iDVD to burn to an external drive anytime. I won't object.
4. Why? Not even the dedicated ISPs are making a dime right now, and Apple doesn't want to get into the war between the companies that own the wires and the ones who own the bandwidth.
5. ResEdit is obsolete. The modern analogs are Interface Builder, Project Builder (for extending apps via Categories) and Plist Editor, which ship with every Mac, and which are considerably more powerful and less hairy than ResEdit was.
I want the Open/Save dialogs to be made absolutely consistent, friendlier (they currently tend to choose bizarre columns to start on), and keyboard-navigable. Or, I'd like to seem them replaced with a Shelf + a proxy + the Finder.
Various underpinnings need to be finished and tightened up. The various permissions-related errors need a lot of refining, and file permissions need to be less prone to corruption in the first place. Permission repairs, obtuse permissions-related dialogs, and the very word "permission" together constitute my single biggest problem with OS X.
OS X needs to be able to wake from sleep in response to scheduled tasks (iCal, cron, etc.), and in response to plugging and unplugging of hot-pluggable cables - and then it needs to be able to go right back to sleep. But it shouldn't always wake up for scheduled tasks (e.g. Mail - I'd like it to be able to wake up and check mail once a day while I'm on vacation, but not once every five minutes while I'm trying to sleep), so it would have to be an optional behavior, settable via checkbox where appropriate.
The ctrl-D shortcut to the Dock needs to be reassignable for those of us who spend time in Terminal, damnit.
The Developer Tools need another release. The current release is wonky (for example, if you type a " to open a string, all following code in the editor vanishes - but not consistently. Typing another " brings it all back).

Hear hear! I used to love poking around with ResEdit, but it always gave me the heeby-jeebies. IB is much nicer.

I believe you can change these settings in Keyboard(?) under Full Keyboard Access. You can toggle between function keys, letter presets, or anything you want.

that would be a kernel panic
file a feedback report to apple

while you cant make your own, you can still see other people's profiles
"get info" on someone in your buddylist and from the pulldown menu go to their "account"
their profile should be in there
Lower sound level all the way down.
Put it to sleep
Wake it up.

OOO COOLL!! THANKS A BUNCH
2) the beachball (why a beachball?!!) everytime I drag folders, open new browser windows etc.
3) the dock freezing momentarily whenever I drag something to the trash
4) full prope file names wherever I want
5) be able to never have to resort to the command line ever again (not even fsck)
6) know where my apps are so that installers don't get confused when I move them.
7) fix 10.2.4
8) stop minor apps utilising massive amounts of horsepower - even on a dualie
9) kill the whole permissions thing invisibly - its ridiculous that osX's permissions get screwed so easily
10) allow booting from a cd onto a desktop

Well, it got fixed after a restart. This leads me to a thought that you should restart at least once a month.

2. Fix all quirks in navigation services (is it called that anymore?). Ie Open/Save dialogues.
Not starting in the right initial directory.
Sometimes not being able to choose a "shortcut" from the menu
Get RID of the "go to" field. Or at least don't make it the default.
Don't make the trash the inital directory if I've trashed the last opened/saved file
I could go on for days...
