Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Mac is the man
Actually here in vancouver we all say it by whatever the actual product is (coke, sprite, gingerale), but in general call them Soft Drinks (Yes, I consider Beer a softdrink too ). However I grew up knowing it as pop, Soda sounds so... 1950s...
This thread makes me want a Fresca?... quite possibly the best soft-drink ever!
Fresca WOULD be good if it werent for the Asparthime (sp?) in it. That stuff tastes NASTY and is shown to have all kinds of connections to malladies (cant think of the right word right now... common word, but just lost in me...)like cancer.
Well I sometimes just say 'coke' when all i want is cola, be it Coke or Pepsi. But when I want to know what kind of beverages they have I ask "What kind of soda do you have?" Then refer to the name of the beverage...
That's an excellent question. I'll let you know if it happens.
[edit]
I'm down with Coke and Pepsi. I used to be a strict Coke guy, but my girlfriend's family are all staunch Pepsi advocates, so in my typical moderate style I have become a fan of both.
As long as it's not some kind of earth material boiled (coffee or tea) then it's usually good by me.
Same here. I grew up in CT and my mom was from Rochester (NY). Whenever we'd visit my grandparents they called it pop. That's because culturally the Mid-West begins in upstate New York. Notice where they all call it pop - MN, Chicago, upstate NY.

Well it's "pop" here, but if you travel across the state to Albany, they call it soda. I wouldn't really say that the Mid-west begins in upstate NY. I'd say that the "pop" thing has to do with your vicinity to Canada.

Seriously, POP, what the hell is that?

An annoying and gay N Sync song.
Soda? Jesus, I laugh everytime I hear that word on a US show...
I guess it's what you're used to. SODA sounds soooooo gay to me. SODAmn gay.
Anyway, wasn't it called soda-pop way back when? I guess you guys started using the soda half, and we took the pop half.
Whatever. It's what you mix into it that counts, anyway.

ot: when isn't he?
On a side note: what's better?
Coke or Pepsi.
7up or Sprite.
Dr.Pepper or Mr.Pibs
I say: Pepsi, Sprite and Mr.Pibs.
{oops, it's Pibs, not Pips}

If you're talking diet pop, Pepsi kicks Coke's ass...
Sprite's better than 7up.
if you don't believe me, order a rum and pepsi sometime.
or bacardi and pepsi. *shudder*
