I thought the netbook sales pitch was that they could already run all the desktop software we already have?
Is that *gasp!* not really true?
Please research this first.
I can attest, that the netbook can in fact run all the desktop software we already have. My guess is that Intel will release the netbook app store (if they really are stupid enough to do it) on the Windows architecture.
Apple could easily counter this by adding a Mac App store to iTunes.
But one thing that troubles me - the intense competition on the App Store has driven down app prices to unheard of low levels. Who would have thought a few years ago you could buy quite decent programs for only $1 or $2.
But desktop computers have different kinds of apps. Many highly technical, and not really mass-market. Would an app store work for these? What would happen to prices? Don't you really want optical media for huge complex apps? It might work but it wouldn't work *as well.*
From what I can tell, this app store is more aimed at addressing netbook performance issues with traditional Windows programs. This appears to be an admission by Intel that netbook performance on a full unrestricted OS isn't the greatest. Couple this with the fact that Google is coming out with a lite version of youtube aimed at netbooks and you start to get an argument as to why an Apple tablet should not run full OSX if you want the best user experience possible (not to mention that a tablet is touch based which makes cursor based navigational difficult).
You can buy lots of software online, from all price ranges, it just isn't available in one convenient location. If you need an optical disk, burn one yourself.
Apple invented stores and retail in general - didn't you know that? And Al Gore invented the internet so then Apple invented that too cause he sits on their board.
OK that makes sense- besides a dumbass incumbent who couldn't win an election against W could hardly have invented the internet.
So he created the internet then.
Can you P_L_E_A_S_E, P_L_E_A_S_E, shut up with your incessant and utterly off-topic drivel? P_L_E_A_S_E? Can you, like, get a job or girlfriend or dog or something, so that you can give it a rest once in a while?

IMHO, given the fact that he seems to have nothing else to do with his life except post stink-bombs here 24/7, he repeatedly ends up making threads in this site look like it is a joke, and by inference.....

C'mon, Teckstud is fun to have around - he's the only intelligent person Microsoft employs.

I truly appreciate your patience and your sense of humor if you really think that is the case (no, I am not being sarcastic or snarky). I notice that you have, so far, only a few dozen posts. Give it a while, and I think you will end up on my side.
In the meantime, a lot of damage will have been done to this site.....
Look, I am not suggesting that anyone -- least of all, me -- has a monopoly on wisdom or insights. But it is truly distressing to see recalcitrant and relentless stupidity and negativity.
It absolutely slays me every time some tech company decides they are going to just up and copy Apple's success, out of the blue. Do a search for the technical details of an Intel processor. http://processorfinder.intel.com/Default.aspx That is what an Intel app store will look like. That's how it will work.
''Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like,'' says Steve Jobs, Apple's C.E.O. ''People think it's this veneer -- that the designers are handed this box and told, 'Make it look good!' That's not what we think design is. It's not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.''
True, but Apple made it successful because of its user interface and low prices. You didn't see other businesses jumping on the band wagon prior to Apple's success, did you?
Apple made it successful because of its low prices? Apple doesn't set the price, so how does that work?

Will it be tied to a section of DRM/TPM that Intel uses?
If not, this is stupid and is nothing but another repo in a Linux distro.

At the risk of being side tracked, that Al Gore quote is apocryphal. What really happened is addressed in detail here: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
It should be noted that the iPhone has the icons in horizontal position. Intel has theirs in vertical. BIG, BIG difference...
EDIT: I just looked at one of Apple's iPhone ads. The icons transition from horizontal to vertical. Note to self, research...then post.

There's a certain segment of the population for whom "apocryphal" is a substitute for "sentience."

Huh??
Huh??
Vocabulary trolling- pay it no mind.
Huh??
I'm talking about the group who's world view is fundamentally shaped by a series of interlocking "outrages" which never happened.

Pro-tip: for hyperbolic sarcasm to be marginally effective, it must bear some passing resemblance to reality.
