Sitting on my ass just like you. If I had the mens finals to watch in the Australian Open this would be a lot easier.

Just got back from seeing the Mothman Prophecies.

Haven't decided if I like it or not. Strange film.

Check that. It was pretty cool.

Looking out the window right now and dreading the morning. Shoveling snow in -26C with brutal winds.... should be fun.

Top this for boredom-I'm watching the Batman movie. THE 60'S VERSION!

It doesn't even have Julie Newmar!

Let's see...The Mothman Prophecies...starring Richard Gere. Any movie with Gere is automatically terrible.

I watched the Australian Open women's singles final. Didn't care for the final result though. Hingis is a brat, but a better over-all player.

I just got the game Red Faction, applied the OS X patch and have been pleasantly surprised by a cool game with an actual, working, OS X patch!

Also, I've got a few DVDs to watch: Red Corner (Richard Gere amusingly enough, it IS a good movie though!), The Pelican Brief and Clear & Present Danger.

Also, I kind of wish AI still had that Java chat thing, I don't have an IRC client to use the new AI IRC channel for one reason: I've yet to find a nice, simple, OS X-friendly IRC client. Does anyone know of a stripped-down, feature-shy, preferably coccoa IRC client?

Edit: Oh my God! That was my 100th post! *runs to get the confetti and balloons*

Just out of curiosity, where are you in DC? My guess is a university, but correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I'm in the wonderful land of Bethesda right now, about to call it a night. (Trying to get back into normal life-scheduling. 2 weeks of exams and projects will throw you off.)

Anyway, it's pretty tough being 20 in DC. You realize just how little you can do on Friday nights, as you've exhausted everything non-alcoholic a while back. Of course, when it comes to a lack of non-alcoholic activities, I'd say central jersey takes the cake.

If you're really bored, and a risk taker, take that M3 up to New Carrolton some night, after the Metros stop running.

I'm coming in late but I mostly did laundry last night. About 6 loads. Friday night is a great night to get laundry done. No one in the laundry room.

I think just about everything here is "international somethingorother"...

It's why I come to AI... everyone here has to be so politically correct that it just is sickening... such is why this place serves as a nice respite, ya know?

DC is a horrible city too IMO. Are the "homeless" still running the streets there?

DC really is misconstrued as much worse of a place than it really is. Having grown up almost all of my life here, it's really a question of where you are, like in any city.

Allow me to introduce a map that I overlayed with red and green to show places that are "good" and "bad" in DC...

Basically, the green areas cover Northwest DC. This is the 'nice' part of town. It's mostly residential, everything from nice apartments to $10+ million homes. the Georgetown area is perhaps one of the nicest: the equivalent of a Toyota Camry around here seems to be a Mercedes, BMW, or Volvo...

Downtown is basically in the center of the screen. It was, until recently, not a very nice area of town. However, the construction of the MCI center and the current construction of the new convention center have very much revitalized this area. Clearly the Mall and Capitol Hill are fine areas, as are Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. Places where you wouldn't feel threatened walking down the street.

However, the red areas encompass NE and SE; that's where it gets bad. SE is the worst; housing projects, etc. abound. NE is more of a working class community for the most part; it has its pockets of 'bad' but it is, in general, OK. Not necessarily the safest place in the world, but not somewhere where a stranger is going to be immediately shot. It's also, of course, got pockets of very nice areas. I know that there are many developers looking into NE and SE areas that border on the nicer areas for revitilization projects.

However, i was in the Navy Yard area of Southeast the other night very very late at a club (i.e. entering at 1 AM and leaving at 6 AM) and it's not really a bad area, just a dead one. It's possible to get mugged, but... basically, anyone walking around in an abandoned industrial area of any city is taking a bit of a risk

I think that the problem is that the bad areas of DC are played up no end in the media in the rest of the country-- because that's where the newsworthy happenings occur. Basically, NW is a very affluent, safe area... but it doesn't get press, of course.

DC is no worse of a city than, say, Baltimore or New York or LA, in fact, the nice parts of the city are MUCH MUCH nicer than most; it's just a different type of city. Whereas in many cities the nicest areas are high-rise apartments, DC, it's the other way around- green spaces abound and; in many areas, most of the houses have their own yards etc. It's only in the very old areas such as Georgetown and in the commercial areas like downtown that it's a really "CITY" feel...

You'll have to take New York off that list. The last Mayor did a great job getting the city in control again. Let's hope the new one doesn't **** it up.

College is an investment, an M3 is a toy. they both cost (close to) the same amount...
