As for the 'bad' parts of DC, I feel about as safe in them as I do in many parttd of New York. You aren't as likely to get mugged as you'd think, since so much of DC crime boils down to fights between drug rings.

I don't like the shortness of DC either. For the record, the ordinance states that a building cannot be taller than the Capital. With hope, major suburbs like Bethesda and Rosslyn will grow upward a bit, forcing DC bureaucrats to resolve the height issue.
