The iPhone accounts for much much more than 5% of AT&T's data consumption. This is a well known fact.

Your conclusions stink in part because you rely on bogus premises (such as this one) but also because your conclusions never follow the premises to begin with.

Your logic sucks. You are embarrassing yourself on this forum.

And Goofy told Daffy.................. It's a Mickey Mouse system run by a bunch of suits. I used an Android today and it gets 3G where my iphone doesn't. The ads are right on. at&t needs to leave the old corporate mentality in the waste can and start allowing some innovators a seat at the table.

The biggest burst of new iPhone users happens on Christmas. AT&T is on vacation, so to prevent a meltdown they stopped last minute sales that would have further clogged their network.

Just another admission that AT&T's network sucks.

Have you seen the data usage figures for the iPhone? They're astronomical.

It’s a data guzzler. Owners use them like minicomputers, which they are, and use them a lot. Not only do iPhone owners download applications, stream music and videos and browse the Web at higher rates than the average smartphone user, but the average iPhone owner can also use 10 times the network capacity used by the average smartphone user.

Yes I know the iPhone is a data hog and is taxing AT&T's network. That's another issue but not the reason for this incident in my opinion. One just buys the iPhone from Apple anyway right? Still on AT&T right? No problem solved by turning off online sales in this case.

It might very well be that AT&T cannot issue a contract or start the contract process if the phone a customer wants is out of stock. It puts them in a bind if they do and Apple doesn't deliver for some reason.

Since it was right after the holiday, they likely just ran out of inventory.

When the customer called the service rep, she tried to save the sale (and her commission) by trying to sell another phone.
