Long story short: it's relatively harmless, and it gives you the munchies. All other factors (whether it makes you a boring asshole or not, for example) has a lot to do with who's smoking, and how good your stash is!

WTF? Did you read that article? Go read it again. "Harmless" is not the word I would use. It's not the word they used.

I personally Think it should be legal, but only if your 21 or older. I personally think alchohol is a waste of time, I mean I'll drink a glass of wine at dinner occasionally but never to get drunk, drinking to get drunk is pretty dumb, and being drunk is pretty dumb. I think people that smoke pot heavily are only boring(assholes? come on...your the asshole to think they are an asshole just cause they are boring)because when your high you just don't care to really pay much attention to your speech or movement, ya know? you get into the state where your either just mindlessly gabbing away about whatever...or your just staring passively at something and being perfectly content with it.

many of my friends smoke pot heavily, and they are ususally pretty boring, simply because they don't really care to think of something interesting to say....however this one guy, smokes pot like mad, is probably the most interesting person I know, if he's stoned or sober, he ALWAYS has interesting shit to say, he's a really smart guy, pays attention to science, and market economy, and world events, as well as more casual social stuff around town. but I guess its a given that there will always be exceptions to generalizations.

I don't know....I mean I could go on and on about pot, But I'm sure most of you know enough about it, to realize that its not that serious...and too all those that say its a gateway drug...it really isn't unless the person smoking it has little of a life and not much willpower.its also not a very addicting drug, sure there are loads of potheads in the world, but most of them COULD quit at anytime, they just don't really want to....this ties into willpower and mentality...Cigarettes is a phsyical addiction, booze is part mental part phsyical....pot is like almost all mental, its not that you CAN'T quit(cigarettes) but you jusut don't WAN'T to(mentality)however, two of my good friends(both smoke Mad pot, and used to smoke mad cigarettes) have quit smokign cigarettes, but thats largly due to a hiking trip we went on for a week, with no cigarettes, up to mount whitney

I personally don't smoke cigarettes, I think its disgusting, I don't drink much, Its not very satisfiying, and I hardly smoke pot, It gets old.

I have my stance, and it works for me.

Hemp should definatly be legal....hemp is soooo ****ing useful...damn

And I'm not just a clouded up old hippy, I'm not even a hippy,. I'm not even old, and I'm sure as hell not clouded up.

    well thats that I guess.

Wasn't that on the Green partys agenda?

Scott, I read the article. It said that there aren't any lasting effects. It reiterated the fact that it causes short term memory loss, decreased motor skills, etc. I don't consider that harmful, no more than drinking alcohol anyway.

And from firsthand experience, having been a heavy user, stopping for 6 months, and then starting again, I already knew what the study said. In practice I think the effects of the drug were gone long before 28 days. But, that's a matter of perspective and is different for every person.

I didn't mean to say that there aren't any bad parts about marijuana. But it is harmless in so far as there's nothing special about it that justifies its being illegal.

It said there aren't long-lasting cognitive effects. There are plenty of other well-established adverse health effects, like cardiovascular disease and lung cancer.

They didn't say it caused cardiovascular disease, they said while smoking it it could increase the risk of a heart attack at the time of inhalation. This is due to the effect on blood pressure. As for lung cancer, anything smoked would be a problem because the lungs have to filter it and the less work the lungs have to do the better.

I definitely think it should be legal though. If I want to smoke pot on the weekends because it relaxes me why shouldn't I be able to? I don't like to drink and I don't smoke cigarettes. Can't I have one little bit of pleasure without thinking I am breaking the law because I like to smoke a plant? It relaxes me, thats pretty much it. Big deal.............................................. ...

Well regular smokes are linked to the plaques and hardening of the arteries. So why not pot too?

But that's not pro pot so I'll shut up now.

Cigarettes have a different chemical makeup than pot. Thats not to say they may not find that to be true. The big difference is the frequency of use. I only use 2-3 days a week, and not a lot even when I do use it. Cigarette smokers are constantly smoking and not giving the body a break. I also take lots of vitamins and antioxidants to try to counter some of the negative effects...................
