Dragon-maker Nuance acquires MacSpeech
Nuance Communications announced Tuesday that it has acquired MacSpeech, the leading provider of speech recognition for the Mac platform. The agreement will allow Nuance to extend the Dragon NaturallySpeaking family of products to Mac users as a native application.
MacSpeech Dictate was introduced in 2008, and earned the Macworld "Best of Show" award. The application already uses the Dragon speech recognition engine.
"This is an exciting time for the Mac community ? Mac shipments are up, the new iPad is due to ship in a couple of months, and new apps (like Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search) are being added to the App Store every day, revolutionizing how we work, play and communicate," said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager of Dragon. "It's a perfect time for us to open Dragon?s doors to the Mac community!"
Dragon said nothing will change for users of either product in the near term. More details are due to be shared in the coming weeks.
