Apple Employees To See New PowerMacs on 1/24?
According to Think Secret there is to be an unveiling for employees to be held in Cupertino at 10AM PT tomorrow. (This is the same thing that happened with the iPod. Employees got a look several days before the public did). Looks like product, along with new iMacs, will be at Apple Stores and Re-sellers on Tuesday the 29th.

I also hate to break it to you, but the new iMacs will not be on sale on the 29th. They are shipping out from Apple on the 29th and will be at retail stores on either the 1st or 2nd of February.

Thats not what my local Apple Store said. They said they'd "have them in" next week. Ah hem "probably". hehe
Seems kind of grandiose for a not-terribly-significant hardware upgrade ...

What seems grandiose? Apple showing an updated product to the people who work there? I'm not sure I understand. Unlike the iPod rollout this isn't a press event it's just for people who work at Apple.

Umm, no, most Apple employees did not see the iPod before it was announced to the public.. they did hold a meeting in town hall, and there were press folks in there updating web pages live for us..

Hey, are you in Markham?
I'm at a certain Telcom next to buttonville airport..always wanted to work for Apple Canada though.. what's it like?

Why unveil a speed bump to employees? If its the same QS enclosure who needs an unveiling. Now a G5, there's something worth "unveiling".

"Ok everyone, gather around. Whoalaaa! These are the current QS G4s that we have managed to squeeze 133mhz out of to give us a dual, say it with me folks, a dual 1.0ghz!! Everything else is pretty much the same, but it's a dual 1.0ghz!!
Alright, the party is over, everyone get back to work, move it. Move it!"

Hey, good point. If it's just the internals that are changing, you don't need to gather everybody around; just send a company-wide memo with the new specs. If you want everybody to see it, you need to get them all together to show it off.
Hmmm... this could be something. Alright! I'm all refueled in expectation of the next "next big thing".
When the TiBook and iBook got bumped back in October, its not like Apple called all employees in and showed off the new stuff... this sounds kind of fishy if it's going to JUST be speedbumped G4s.

(2 years after Intel machines reached a gig)
Apple has not annoucned a press-conference. So if they are updating stuff soon, there will be no hoopla about it.

Agree?
If the Crystal Clear offer (PMG4 + LCD rebate) ends on Jan/31, it would be safe to assume no new towers before that date.
Agree?

This has talked over to death. The promo means absolutely nothing. Apple shortened the cd burner Powerbook promo without notice and they can do it again with the Crystal Clear promo.
Railhead design states that he called a retailer and they said new PMs would be out thurs. Just more info to add. i gues this kinda squashes that whole rumors about g5s at seybold if this is true. The product cycle would be too quick

That depends on the anouncement. A simple speed boost, with no mother board revision, or even moving to MP's across the board wont cost Apple much in R&D, and if they keep the inventory low then they could easily announce the G5 in a few months. This strategy might also make the apparent jump in speed appear less when/if they start shipping 1.6 ghz G5's, which would be clost to a 100% boost in processer speed over what is shipping now. This could sit "bad" in customers mouths, and bring about some bad press. On the other hand, if they ship the new G4's for a few months before they anounce the G5's it will appear that they are moving ahead in development, instead of stigmatizing the G4 as a "failed" chip.
