There a lot of other things that keep this from being a replacement for many people. To name a few....
3) The inability to use external drives additional storage.
4) Require iTunes on a PC for getting media (unless you with to start from scratch with iTS) and for backing up.

And this is only true for the US app store. At least the UK app store does not show iPad apps.
not surprising since you can't buy an ipad in the UK. why torture you with being able to buy apps for it this far ahead.
