But arguably, the most important quality of any display, is how it looks?
And AMOLED looks like ass!
So, Apple won't bother with it anytime soon, especially as each display requires slightly different calibration just because it's organic tech.
Depends on what's coming down the pipeline. Few people knew about the 9.7" IPS screen that Apple chose as it wasn't in any current shipping products but the thing looks gorgeous to my eyes.
I'm not ruling OLED out but I think Gen II could be a tad early. Gen III sounds more like it. I'd put up with more difficulty in viewing in direct sunlight to get more battery and performance.
all the cutting-edge-spec-junkies just can't give up their conviction Apple must implement all their wet dreams, ASAP.
nevermind the fatal flaw of current OLED tech - outdoor use. it must come! now!! nevermind the iPad's LCD in-plane tech provides the best available user experience in all conditions, and one that matters most - wide angle viewing (which means sharing with others). nah, it's old!
very possibly in the future Apple will adopt OLED tech once it has no fatal flaw. great. until then, forgeddit. no premature techjaculation.

It's all about the latest tech buzzword. Without a fashionable term to through around people won't know I have the latest stuff. The tech actually being a good choice for the product is of no consequence.
OLED truly has a spectacular black level and PICTURE QUALITY. In a 9.7 inch size it would trruly be magnificent. Whether production capabilities and price are PROHIBITIVE is the question.

Rumors != news.
Thank you for your time
BTW, I thought oled sucked in sunlight? Isn't ipad supposed to be ebook contender?
The author makes it sound like OLED tech is new....it has been around for many many years
Yeah, and the displays still suck!
Crap colour reproduction, and crap outdoors (where you're likely to be with a phone). So what's the point again?

Time will tell.
