Different types of people buy different types of stuff. As a regular in here you should know that lots and lots of people are making a statement using Macs. Creative people often use Mac, both graphic designers and musicians (and so do the wannabies ), it's also a part of Apple's branding. Take a group of lawyers and investors and compare them to a group of musicians and graphical people. Where do you think you would find more Macs and where do you think you would find more left wingers and progressive liberals?

Four more: Andrew Sullivan, Jonah Goldberg

Actually, I could add some more. Most of the staff at <a href="http://www.nationalreview.com/"; target="_blank">NRO</a> use macs.

Or perhaps they didn't really have anything to say. I've debated lefties/liberals here and on other boards who I couldn't shout down if my life depended on it.

Well, I use to be a democrat but they went loony years ago and I bailed out. I still believe in helping the people who need help but not with a safety net. I believe the government should at least provide a ladder so people who have initiative can help themselves on their own. To me, an example of a ladder would be the Govt. paying for college for anybody who wants to go with the requirement that they pay back every penny they borrowed for college, even if it takes 30 years or more.

Now, I've been a Republican who is just about ready to bail out and become a Libertarian. To me, the Republicans are spineless and have no balls. The final straw that is making me change partys is Bush saying he is going to sign the CFR bill. This bill clearly limits the right to free speech and as far as I'm concerned, our constitution is what helped make this country great.

Now I don't think the Libertarians are 100% perfect either. One of the things they stand for is complete, open borders, even after Sept. 11. But for the most part, they support the constitution as it was written more so than Democrats or Republicans.

Well, the democratic party has almost always been associated with the labor class...

So...with regard to our two party system:

Macs are expensive. That favors Republicans, unless you live in denial.

Macs are popular with artists. That favors Democrats.

I always thought that Mac users were largely those of us who wanted to "think different" and were a bit opposed to corporate, "windroid"-mentality right wing views, so I wouldn't be surprised if more Mac users were Democrat-affiliated than not. Then again, you'd think that if it were true we were such individualists, that there would be a disproportionately larger amount of Independants. To that I say, maybe, just maybe, we're smart enough to realize how little their votes count. </strong><hr></blockquote>

There's nothing "Think Different" about Democrats. (or Republicans). And if you look at the AI boards you WILL notice a lot of independents. I'm an independent, for one.

Creative people don't really tend to be socialist, either. It's just that society doesn't view engineers as creative, regardless of how many mind-bending revolutionary developments they make all the time. I'd say that understanding and admiring capitalism takes a certain critical mass of logical, left-brain ability. Of course, there are logical reasons not to like it as well, but all of the die-hard capitalists I know are very quantitatively able.

Many artistic types can grasp the ideals of socialism much more easily, and since the Mac is a much finer platform for the arts, that's the connection. Though on the whole I don't think there's a clear majority of mac users who are left-leaning.

    Last statement:

I think the reason why there aren't too many dems on AI is due to the fact that we're a young, intelligent crowd, and demographics will show that we aren't very keen on the 2 party system. The other reason is that Independents and Republicans have more to say than Dems, since the Democratic party is the party of entropy: there isn't a real operational baseline for the democratic party. The Republicans at least have a desire for a smaller government on the backburner. And Independents. . . well, Inpedendents have A LOT to say. We're the most opinionated.
