I'm not sure why the negativity is popping up here. Most of the people I ride with have wished for an iPod/iPhone solution for biking. Since they have been so successful with the Nike+ system for running, it only seems logical that something for bikers was on the way.
Since we are talking wireless here, in an unsuspected downpour you could just pocket the device if no waterproof case was on hand.
I would love to have tons of data on my biking to analyze, and I have the expectation that I would enjoy Apple's solution more than other companies' attempts!
Really? I thought that patents usually just went through on the nod. (How else is the legal profession going to earn an honest buck further down the line )
you couldn't be further from the truth here. i have a family member working in the patent office and he's approved 1 patent in his 3 years there.
sure, software patents do make it through easier than that, but you gotta realize that companies flood the patent office with similar ideas, written in any way imaginable, hoping that a small percentage make it through. for every patent apple is granted probably 50+ are rejected.
That is a pretty cool feature; I would love to get separate torque data for each leg. Do you know if they do it with strain gauges or if it is just calculated somehow?
Don't know. But I did download 3 PDF files to learn more from this bike. Just didn't make the time yet to read them. Probably because the bike is around £ 20.000 or something like that. As much as I like to bike, I won't be replacing my current one with this 20k bike.
I did think about the torque reading, but cannot think of any reason why I would need to read the difference between left and right...why do you think that is a good feature?
Really don't know, obviously. Probably responding here as I'm waiting to be picked up and have nothing better to do at 7am so am trying to see if I get a response from an 'privileges revoked' account

Negative is the new positive.

That comment looks like it was written by Steve Jobs. And btw, there are not "many" waterproof iPhone cases.
Two good ones are:
Otterbox http://www.otterbox.com/iphone-cases/
Dahon http://www.dahon.com/node/740
This one also has the optional recharging system to compensate for the reduced battery life when running the GPS.
With Apple, less is more/

Phil, this thread is more than three years old!
Really don't want to miss any of them!
I just followed a link in the thinner card reader thread from Square:

Now, back to the missing spoke issue...
