Apple updates iMovie for iOS 4.1, and Safari, iWeb

Apple has updated its iMovie app for iPhone 4 and the fourth-generation iPod touch, and released incremental updates for Safari and iWeb.



iMovie 1.1



On the heels of the release of the new iPod touch and iOS 4.1, Apple posted Wednesday a significant update to its $4.99 iMovie app. Version 1.1 adds compatibility with the fourth-generation iPod touch, the much-desired ability to split video clips, video scrubbing in Video Browser, updated sorting in Photo Browser, and an in-app Tips page.



Safari 5.0.2, 4.1.2



Safari updates 5.0.2 for Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard, Windows and 4.1.2 for Mac OS X Tiger contain compatibility and security improvements. The updates were released Tuesday.



Safari 5.0.2 for Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard fixes an issue that prevents users from submitting web forms, corrects incorrectly displayed content when viewing Google Images with Flash 10.1 installed, and establishes an encrypted, authenticated connection to the Safari Extensions Gallery .



The Apple Support download page highlights only the web form and Extensions Gallery fixes for Safari 5.0.2 for Windows.



Safari 4.1.2 for Mac OS X Tiger fixes the the web form submission issue.



Safari 5 was originally released in June with a significant performance increase and improved HTML 5 support.



iWeb 3.0.2



Tuesday's iWeb 3.0.2 update refines comment and search support for blogs and podcasts published to MobileMe, and resolves some issues related to publishing sites to MobileMe.



iWeb is overdue for a full update. The last major revision came in January 2009 with iLife '09.



A listing for a "Family Pack" of the unannounced iLife '11 was spotted on Amazon.com, but has since been taken down.



In July, rumors incorrectly slated iLife '11 for an August release.

    Haven't touched Safari since I went with Chrome/Firefox combo about a year go. Before that I had Firefox/WebKit getup. Chrome blew away safari in terms of speed, extensions, silent auto-updates and Tabs On Top (Bring on the hate). Safari is currently the least used apple software on my mac.

    I actually like Safari and use it all the time on my Mac. That is when I'm not using the WebKit nightly. I've got FireFox installed too, but seldom use infact in the last few months have only started FireFox to update. For me Safari is more than speedie enough, the big kicker though is Integration with iPhone something I use a lot.



    Funny; the rest of this updated software I've never touched.



    In any event it is good to see Apple updating things properly. Hopefully we will not see another iPhone 3G / iOS4 fiasco in the future.

    I dislike silent auto updates, i like to know what is installing what and where, and don't want a single update without entering my admin password. Having software update check automatically each Friday is all I need. No stealthware for me please!



    For the record, chrome takes longer to launch than safari and I can't tell any difference in page loading times...
