God I hope not. When Microsoft buys companies, the users of the affected software wind up holding a flaming bag of sh*t while the former owners of the company being bought run away laughing with suitcases of money. Microsoft has a tendency to f things up. Danger hoptop, also known as T-Mobile Sidekick got turned into Kin. Hiptop fans were not amused when Microsoft nearly lost all of their personal data in Microsoft's cloud, then tried to blame it on Danger and their Linux platform. Microsoft bought Giant, which was the best spam filter for Windows, then told former Giant customers (like me), sorry, no more updates. Visio used to be a great diagramming tool until it was bought by Microsoft, now I can't stand it, and I switched to OmniGraffle and export it to the PC when I need to do work there.

A Microsoft owned Adobe would be a disaster for Adobe's customer base, which is mostly "Pro" users and creative types, regardless of which OS they use.

Best response so far, how is it people forget the past deals Microsoft made and the epic fail mistakes they have caused. Microsoft's business model is based on copy/paste current trend, and done very badly at that, they will not recover from their decline in the mobile space, windows phone 7 in my humble opinion will not save them nor their mobile business. I predict Ballmer will inevitably be ousted as CEO, and replaced by someone just as ineffectual.

I don't know about the 'Aqbar' part - that is a bit weird - but 'Haji' could just be based on a smattering of knowledge of Hindi from his various travels to India.

'Haji' is simply a respectful 'yes' (sort of, like 'Yes, sir.') in Hindi. Perhaps he was just being nice to Mr. Narayen (who is Indian).

My guess is that Microsoft wants to lure creative professionals (the bread & butter of Adobe's user base) over to Windows by playing games with release schedules. So for example, they would create artificial feature disparity between Windows & Mac versions of their apps in order to choke off Apple's strong footing in that market. The second thing that will happen, I predict, is that Microsoft will merge Flash & Silverlight into "SilverFlash" and provide a version of ActionScript that supports .NET for Flash programmers to use to migrate to SilverFlash. In other words, to quote Admiral Ackbar, "It's a trap!"

I don't believe that creative professionals are responsible for the largest portion of Adobe sales, if that is what you mean by "bread and butter". The top selling products for Adobe are Acrobat for Windows, followed by Photoshop Elements for Windows and then Photoshop for Windows. So as far as CS Suite Mac goes, not even close to a top seller for Adobe.

Adobe won't sell out to Microsoft. Even though it runs like shit, Flash for OSX is still something they want to keep going, and with MS driving, you can kiss that goodbye, along with any reason for OSX users to have any kind of respect for flash at all.

I've not seen a breakdown of relative profitability by product for Adobe (most companies don't release that kind of information.) But adobe makes 2/3 of all their revenue from their "Creative Solutions" group, which is basically all their CS software which is "targeted at the needs of creative professionals." And I do seem to remember them having referred to Creative Suite as their "most profitable product." I also seem to remember that they sell roughly equal numbers of Mac and Win based CS licenses.

I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that Mac software is essential to their continued good health.

Why? He gives lots of his development time to Mac users. He makes Word and all the other good titles for Mac, even though far less profit is made.

So long as there is enough profit to be made from Mac software, Microsoft will sell it. But if Mac market share falls much further, all bets are off.

Is that the same 'market share' that has been consistently rising... for the last seven years?

    Really low grade trolling!

I guess an alternative would be to go buy the fastest mac I could afford and the latest version of the Creative Suite and see if I could wait out this tragedy until something changed. That should at least get me two years before I would have to make another hardware decision. It's like battening the hatches before the storm.

Are you serious? Have you not even heard of VMware Fusion or Parallels?

In case you have not, they let you run Windows on a Mac. No need to buy a PC. Problem solved.

You could liken it to those "no see-em's" that burrow into your skin and make you itch like crazy.

(And all these years you wondered where Ballmer got his dance moves)
