The window title bar is removed in iTunes 10.0.1.

So easy to blame Apple for never creating a backup of the pictures you never want to loose...

    iPhoto 8.x = iPhoto '09

As best I can tell you need to

    1. Install iLife '11

    2. Install iPhoto 9.0.1

    3. Launch iPhoto '11 to let it upgrade your library

I'm still totally confused. I've just ordered a new MBA which comes with iPhoto '11. I currently use iPhoto '08 (7.1.5)! I never bought '09.

Do I merely run software update on my brand new machine before migrating files from my existing MBA?

Yep. You should always do that, regardless of the software. Boot it up, make sure it works, then install all updates before migrating.
