my friends and I have the same running tab. Something like 80% hotties in VW cabs. We don't note the same in bugs and passats and jettas. I think the comment about 10% body fat is right on!
BTW, I have the original retro girl car - '96 MX5 Miata. I'm not a particularly handsome man, but girls do notice me in that thing. More than when I had my 928S4. Go figure. Of course, when Mrs. Thoth drives it, she get's honks and whistles....

What happened to the 928? I'll take it.
I don't think many people notice the 928 (except for a few Tom Cruise fans). It's still one of my all time favorites, though. I almost bought one a few years ago, until I found a better car.

I sold that beauty when I went to law school. I haven't had the opportunity to replace it (yet).
It was a fantastic, reliable car for the 2 years I had it. It was a guzzler though. Damn could you pass people on the interstate with it!
What better car are you talking about - you mean you found a car that was better generally, or specifically?

Uh, wait a minute...just for the record, I never made any "10% body fat" comments. First, I'm in no position to do so. Secondly, I'm not hung up on stuff like that, so that's not my bag, baby.
Just want to clear that up. Don't want people thinking I'm some sort of hardbodied, body fat Nazi that places too much importance on the physical, and not the mental...where it belongs.

I guess "better" is relative. I was searching high and low for a 982S4, when I stumbled on its little brother, the 944 Turbo S. The "S" at the end makes all the difference.
I wanted a car I could take on the track, and still drive regularly. In this case, the 944 was marginally better than the 928.
Plus, it gets good gas mileage (25 mpg highway!). Except on the autobahn (um... 10 mpg).

Actually, I didn't mean to attribute it to you. I just think that there are a lot of cars out there that fit our more ample brothers and sisters. My wife dislikes the Miata (to drive) b/c the seatbelt digs into her thigh - the seat's too small for her. I was just agreeing with the observation that you can't fit into the thing unless you fit into the hottie template.

B/4 I had the S4, I had 944S that I absolutely loved. Then I wrecked it. I looked for an '88.5 Turbo S or 89 Turbo to no avail. Then the S4 fell into my lap. Low(ish) miles, $10K stereo, low dollars. I almost had to buy it.
I don't know about 'marginally better' though. The turbo S is much more of a sports car while the s4 is a GT. If you need a track car, the turbo S is the way to go. You chose wisely.
Now, if I could just talk my wife into letting my buy an M3... .
Every model in stock had leather seats, and the salesman didn’t believe me when I said that I didn’t want them - he thought I was playing at a discount. When I explained that I simply preferred cloth, he looked at me as though I’d come from the moon.
</strong><hr></blockquote>
My friend bought a New Beetle with cloth seats, in beige. She didn't want leather because it gets too hot when you are parked for a long time in the SoCal sun. She skipped the moonroof for the same reason. (and yes, she is a babe.)
My only tip for you is to be really, really careful about spilling liquids on the beige upholstery. My friend spilled water on hers and they stained. After the seats had been scotchguarded.

I'd take a 928 to the track as well as a 944. I have some friends who do well in a 928.
This is a picture of Susan Kirby's 928 in the 1996 Pony Express,
where she averaged 140.034 mph for 83 miles. (Her target speed was 140, so this was good enough for... only second place.) This has been modified since then, and really hauls.

Try black seats in a convertible in the SoCal sun. Or even black seats in a convertible in the middle of the Mojave Desert. (I like our Vegas tripz)
How the hell can water stain a seat, unless the seats were dirty to begin with?
I have a black convertible with black seats. Luckily I have covered parking both at home and at work.
Water can stain fabrics if the dyes aren't properly set. Hey, she said it was water, what an I gonna do, argue with her?
Overall, I was not blown away at the durability of the interior of that car. less than a year old and the "soft touch" rubber on the door handle has peeled off to reveal the hard plastic beneath, and the dashboard has tossed off a few of the plastic buttons used to cover the holes for accessories she didn't order. This is the kind of crap that people blasted American car companies for. I hope the Cabrio is better.
I have black leather and my air conditioning just broke! Damn British! Possibly the worst combination possible. Good thing I didn't install that moon roof like I was planning on
Anyhoo, the Porsche 928 kicks ass. Ridin' around in one of those would be awesome. You'd be like that dude on Scarface. Also, the 968 kicks ass too. Not many people have ever seen a 968 but they do indeed kick ass.

That's 'cause you picked the wrong British car.
This is currently the Lust of My Life. And the air conditioning is free!
I'm looking at getting a Jetta -- very seriously looking. Does anyone here actually have a Jetta (especially with the 1.8T engine) or know someone who does? I'm interested what you/they think of it.
And please, no "well I heard that they..." replies. I've read it all and researched it all. I want opinions of actual post-1999 Jetta drivers.

My girlfriend has a 2001 Jetta GLS, but with the base 2.0 engine. She loves it (especially her moonroof). It's blue, the same color as your pic.
Pros: Looks sharp; good interior build quality; cool-looking dash; good headroom; height-adjustable driver's seat (it's an easy-to-use pump mechanism); pretty good handling; lots of standard features that are options on other cars, like remote power locks and alarm system; warranty now 4 years/50,000 miles.
Cons: Not much legroom in back; base engine a little noisy and not very zippy (1.8T would be a better choice); cupholders suck; optional CD changer is trunk-mounted.

The lady in the middle, Michele Doria, drove this car up to 231 mph in the same Pony Express race I mention above.
That would give in my book, <a href="http://www.emansworld.com/CARS/cars_fr-pony96pics1.html#michele" target="_blank">Michele Doria</a> the title of Ultimate Chick.

Drooooollll:
1) are quite reliable
2) very fun to drive
3) attract the ladies
4) have cool blue and red lights on gauges, radio, and climate control
5) are an overall good car for anybody
oops, you didn't want a post like that, sorry
