The problems with the current 13" MBP are its slow HD and its low resolution screen. And I don't need the CD/DVD drive.

I played with the MBA, and I find them too fragile (too thin), for a work portable. It will not last long.

I much prefer the robustness of the MBP. The 15" MBP are too big and heavy for me, so I need the 13" MBP, but damn the screen !

No new MBP coming out until maybe summer. reliable source told me this

I really wish they would just come out with a new

MBP sooner. I'm tired of using a PC laptop I borrowed

since my old MBP died on me a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think the current MBP on Apple.com is worth

the price tag since the new ones are just around the corner.

Yes, because they'll instantly break or be worthless when the new ones come out.

We have this every. single. revision. You're in a position where you actually need a computer, so you need to be buying one now or never buying one at all.

Or he can wait like he has been doing and getting by with his loaner. When you're spending your own money you tend to want to maximize the ROI. Buying a MBP today is a poor value like the current iPad. Sandy Bridge is right around the corner. The Core i5 2400 should be 23% better performing than the Core i5 760.

That's worth suffering 5-6 months for a new MBP. Even the GPU doesn't suck so much although without OpenCL support it's not much of an option for Apple.

well said sir, I will not spend my money on a machine that I find unsatisfactory. Just because I am an Apple user, that does not mean that I just go out and buy what they currently have without much thought. Yes I need a new one but not a new one that I don't like. I will be waiting for the next generation since that will be a better investment.

There are some flaws with your argument. They're only funny from a third person perspective.

That is my guess anyways. Apple doesn't need a bunch of 13" laptops all hovering around the same price.

As to the Mac Book they will be able to do a lower priced machine due to a couple of factors. One is higher integration SoC that will become available next year. The second would be weaning users from FireWire which is getting old real fast. Third is that soldering RAM onto the motherboard is very cheap now. Lastly careful selection of components could lead to even smaller motherboards which leads to bigger batteries.

In any event I see enough factors at play to suggest the possibility of a lower priced MacBook. When that will come no body knows of course. The current MacBook isn't a bad machine by any means but I'm not sure which direction Apple will go when they update it. What I mean is that the potential is there for a cheaper and lighter machine but apple could go in another direction.

As to the AIR, what don't you like about it? I only ask because Steveo suggested that Apples future portables will take design cues from the AIR. Now what he was talking about precisely is anyones guess but I wouldn't be surprised if MacBook looses it's optical drive.
