Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

Adobe Products

Adobe is running a sale that knocks $50 off Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and its Student and Teacher Editions of the various Creative Suite 5 bundles. However, Amazon, MacMall, Buy.com and B&H Photo have combined to slash CS5 Student and Teacher product editions and bundles by as much as 80%, which amount to savings as high as $1,775.00 on the full-fledged CS5 Master Collection. These Student and Teacher Editions are identical to the standard retail distributions, just offered to students and teachers at educational prices. None of the stores require customers to present educational credentials when purchasing the Student and Teacher Editions -- meaning anyone can pay the educational prices -- but EDU credentials may be required after purchase to obtain a valid serial number from Adobe.

I cant imagine they still wont be checking eligibility on Education software. If you visit any of these sights it still states you need to present proof of eligibility to Adobe in order to unlock it. Has anybody had a different experience when purchasing through a reseller?

    Amazon.com says

This software is for use by students and educators meeting the eligibility criteria. See additional policy details here.

On the details page, about halfway down.

In order to install the Adobe Student Edition software, you (or the person you are buying the product for) must first obtain a serial number by submitting proof of eligibility to Adobe according to the instructions included with the product.

Amazon will sell the box to anyone, but what use is it without a serial number?

If you run a legit business, it would be stupid to try to save money by doing this anyway.

Wow. CS5 80% savings. What B.S! AI new low. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

The student editions are barely marked down from their regular prices. But to make it seem like a bigger discount, you state their "regular" price as the full retail price.

Agreed - they normally run about $299. I'm really shocked that Amazon would be so disingenuous with their advertising. And even more disappointed that AI swallowed this hook, line, and sinker.

AI didn't get hoodwinked. They didn't put those lists of prices on the page for your convenience. Those links are ads which allow AI to get a commission from any purchase you make after clicking it. The link contains an id number which then writes a cookie to your browser. Once on the shopping page even if you browse around they can track you and if you purchase, AI gets a check.

Long time lurker (past 3 years) and after reading some of the comments here felt compelled to say "Thank You" for the sales tip! I was able to get Logic for a huge discount!

Love the site, and discussions, AI is usually mixed into my morning routine, served with good coffee=)

Amazon has a limit of one iLife 2011 purchase per customer. Amazon keeps track of whether you have ordered this product before and imposes a limit of one. Unfortunately, this prevented me from purchasing gifts for 2 family members and a copy for myself. So much for savings…

Adobe has sky-high retail prices, coupled with cheapo student pricing to entice new users.

Wouldn't it be better to rebalance its pricing somewhat?

If Photoshop wasn't $700. to start with, would new users really have to be bribed?

Totally agree, small businesses of one, like myself, can't afford full retail pricing and Abode considers it still piracy if you use a student version and aren't in school (either student or teacher).

I wish there was something besides DreamWeaver, that is the worst of the bunch (had to upgrade for the piss poor html5 additions) but I am still using CS4 versions of Photoshop and InDesign. They work just fine, all Adobe does with upgrades is make most of their software worse.

Hey my name is Brad, and I?m new to this forum. I currently own a MacBook Pro, which I am also running Windows XP on via bootcamp. I saw this thread, however and thought I would chime in here first. I currently work for Adobe, and wanted to clear up some ambiguity; while I cannot speak for Amazon I can ensure you that Adobe Student and Teacher editions are meant to provide the software exclusively to students and educators at the discount price. Following graduation students are eligible to purchase the full commercial version for just the price of an upgrade. There is currently a $50 off black Friday promotion which can be found on the Adobe site. I hope I was able to help, and I look forward to participating in more Mac discussion.
