    I should know better than to get involved in this kind of nonsense, but this was just impossible to ignore...

    This is, perhaps, the funniest thing SJO has ever posted. Remember when the Bush DUI came out (personally ordered by Gore, in my understanding)? It backfired on Gore because Bush actually admitted it and took repsonsibility. Yeah, that's "teflon". Maybe he could have shook his finger at the camera and said "I want you to listen to me: I never drove with that beer in my system. I never asked anyone to lie. Not one time, EVER"

    </strong><hr></blockquote>

    Might I inquire as to the origin of your "understanding" that the DUI leak was "personally ordered by Gore" ? Newsmax? Rush? FreeRepublic, perhaps? Citation, please...

    Bush didn't repeat the Clinton performance. He flat-out took repsonsibility. He could have tried to spin it or "lie to protect his family" (how noble).

    [quote]In the midst of all the hysteria, George W. Bush said he wasn't trying to keep his drunken driving record from the public but from the kids. ''I didn't want to talk about it in front of my daughters,'' said W. He feared the message would be undermined by the arrest record of the messenger: ''I made the decision that as a dad I didn't want my girls doing the kinds of things I did.''<hr></blockquote>

    Whoops.

    Furthermore, the idea that Bush "flat-out took responsibility" is just patently ludicrous. Bush was busted plain and simple. Denial was not an option here.

    The validity of the DUI could be confirmed with little difficulty- Bush's very own "stained blue dress," if you will. To credit him for "admitting" his misdeed after he was caught red-handed is ridiculous. A quick google search will reveal any number of cases over the years where bush has dodged responsibility for his actions, such as:

    [quote]When he ran for governor, Bush signed a form swearing to the Texas Republican Party that he had never been convicted of a felony. His arrest in Maine was on a misdemeanor. A question on the form asking if he had ever been convicted of a crime was left blank.

    Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer said Friday an aide to Bush filled out that document.<hr></blockquote>

    The party of "personal responsibility" ... Bah!

    [quote]Ironically, while governor, Bush was called for jury duty in an Austin drunk driving case four years ago.

    He was dismissed, however, at the urging of a lawyer he later named to the state Supreme Court -- let off jury duty before he could ever be asked in pre-trial juror interviews about his own record of drinking and driving.<hr></blockquote>

    There's a bunch of stuff in the middle of this page, as well:

    <a href="http://www.realchange.org/bushjr.htm#drunk"; target="_blank">http://www.realchange.org/bushjr.htm#drunk</a>;

    While we're at it, here's a funny defense of Bush I stumbled upon during my search:

    [quote]Bush's blood alcohol level - 0.10 - was a level 99.9 percent of drinkers in America had as their blood alcohol level when they were stopped, Cole said. "That's like two or three beers. It's not a substantial amount."<hr></blockquote>

    A well-conceived and cogent argument, to be sure... however, one rather notable fellow disagrees:

    [quote]As governor, George W. Bush signed into law a bill reducing the state's blood alcohol limit for driving while intoxicated, and the group Mothers Against Drunk Driving has praised his efforts.

    "For safe streets, I urge you to crack down on drunk driving by lowering the alcohol limit to .08," Bush said in January 1999.<hr></blockquote>

    <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/11/02/bush.dui/"; target="_blank">http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/11/02/bush.dui/</a>;

    If you want tax cuts, deregulation and compulsory sectarian nonsense in the courts and schools, then, by all means, vote Republican. But please spare us your sanctimonious, drooling, fawning adulation for Bush. He's not a great moral and spiritual leader, nor is he a man of honor and dignity. He's a spoiled, blueblood, plutocrat, fratboy f*ckwit who has never had to work a day in his life for anything but who has had everything (from multi-million dollar businesses to the presidency of the United States) handed to him on a silver platter.

    Speaking of which, his lack of metacognative awareness is equally disturbing:

    [quote]MAN: Governor Bush, what is the public's largest misconception of you?

    GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH: Probably that I'm running on my daddy's name; that, you know, if my name were George Jones, I'd be a country and western singer.<hr></blockquote>

    This guy really seems to believe that he's personally earned his own way in life. "Born on third base and thought he hit a triple," indeed.

    I don't personally wish the man any misfortune (particularly since all of our lives are, to one extent or another, "in his hands"), but I'm sorry: "Dubya" is a total f*cking prat.

    Edit: Fix rabid url.

    I wonder how much time he would spend in prison for violating laws he himself passed or is about to pass - drunk driving, insider trading, board of director malfeasance? (not to mention his AWOL for the reserves)

    How much money did he gain on the tax bill he passed given that most of the gains went to people in his tax class?

    This is slightly off topic but the press knnows but doesn't say that Bush is a converted Pentacostalist

    You know tha guys that roll around on the floor and 'speak in tongues' . . . you know the kind of behavior that used to get you either incarcerated or burned as a witch.

    They also believe firmly that these are the 'end times' . . . which of course if you are in charge of the largest strongest nation in the world you could well make happen . . . hhmm.. self fullfilling prophecy?

    Also, Ashcroft, who had just lost an election to a dead man, before being installed in his post, is also a Pentacostalist . . . annointed in oil and speakes in tongues . . rather, blathers gibberish and works himself into a bliss feeling trance and mistakes that as the voice of divinity . . . and they talk about the 'evils' of drug use and altered states?!?!.

    At least with many drugs you aren't fooling yourself that what you got is the voice of god . . . no, with some drugs YOU KNOW IT... heehee . . but you also knnow tha your state is artificially induced.
