Update: Coincidentally, AnandTech just released a review of the HP EliteBook 8740w with the first modern notebook-class IPS display. The IPS upgrade is actually more than than suggested it would bel it?s $550. The price of the tested system is a staggering $6,000.
There are advantages and disadvantages to either technology. Apple selected the right one for what the ipad does. Still, the tech does have a long way to go before you could call it truly usable in all lighting conditions. I wish the backlight could have a Turbo mode with a few hundred lumens. There are times when I'd gladly take the battery hit.

The main problem with the iPad display is the glare.
The new Nexus S is supposed to reduce the glare by 75%.
I think this is wonderful news and the sign that companies better start paying better attention to users eyesight.
I laughed my ass when I saw the Kindle verses iPad commercial, because it's dead on.
