Music question...

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion of the "Best" movie soundtrack released to date is.

Personally, I would have to say the soundtrack from the movie "Singles." I mean, it's got Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and of course Pearl Jam.

Almost Famous has a great soundtrack. That band Stillwater was really sweet.. Guitars done by Peter Frampton and Mike McCready.. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" /> not to mention the other artists on there..

The Matrix soundtrack is pretty chill.. I wish Rob Zombie wasn't on there tho, it ruins the feel for me..

not really a movie soundtrack, but its close enough...i reckon the 'Definative Bond' album is the best ever....mainly cause it has Goldfinger on it, which, if u turn in the same circles as me has an incredible comedy value

(not sure if u'll get that one vargus)

I was also going to say Singles. I really dug The Crow soundtrack (hated the movie), but I think my all-time favorite is for Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?.

O Brother had a great soundtrack, and so did The Royal Tenenbaums.

I don't know what the best of all time would be, though. I'm not partial to orchestral bombast, which rules out a lot of them.

i just relasised that i over ooked the greatest film soundtrack....Eminem's The Eminem Show...

    wondering what the movie is..?

8 Mile of course, which is released this autumn.

The Eminem Show is the unofficial movie soundtrack cause the album contains all the songs which r featured in the movie - the movie itself will contain a few remixes and extra's which r gonna be released on an official soundtrack around the movie release date

probably because it was as cheesy as the movie was. did not hold up to time all that well.

starwars was cool though. took the movie sountrack to a new level.

Pulp Fiction, O Brother Where Art Thou and Magnolia. They are awesome. I have a special place in my heart for Magnolia, because not only does it feature 9 tracks of Aimee Mann, but it also has the best song evar, Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp. Makes me happy just thinking about it.

I would differentiate between film "scores" and film "soundtracks."

My favorite film soundtracks would be "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "Natural Born Killers."

My favorite film scores are "Requiem for a Dream" and "Kundun." I usually hate Philip Glass's works, but in a movie context they're pretty good.

not that i give a rats ass about the numbers, but one last thing you may want to consider. top gun came out around 1985 (to lazy to actually look). the movies i brought up came out in the early 90s in the case of pulp fiction and trainspoting. rushmore came out in 2000 (i think, again to lazy to check). the possibility that more than one of these movie soundtracks will catch up or pass top gun in total sales is more than likely.

Definitely gotta give "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" a shout-out. I've been a bluegrass/mountain music fan for 2/3 of my life...was VERY satisfying to FINALLY see the rest of the country (world?) catch on and see the music for the simple, powerful thing it is. Makes me happy.

Also, as far as great songs adding to a great story, I'd have to say my second choice is the "Goodfellas" soundtrack!

When I watch the movie now, I anticipate some of the songs. Goes hand-in-hand with some of the great scenes and shots (the cool "Layla" tag playing while showing the results of all the guys in the crew having been whacked by Conway/DeNiro, "Mr. Speedo" during Liotta's first introduction to DeNiro, "Sunshine of Your Love" when the camera zooms in on DeNiro contemplating whacking Morry the wig guy, "Then He Kissed Me" during that kick-ass uncut tracking shot when Henry and Karen are entering that club through the backdoor/kitchen, etc.

Of course it's gotta be Saturday Night Fever.

The music in Requiem for A Dream is excellent.

I really like the soundtrack to a German movie called Bandits. The movie is about an all girl rock band that forms in prison and breaks out and rocks. The songs are actually really good. A couple of others that are really good are the soundtrack to Velvet Goldmine, Air's soundtrack for The Virgin Suicides and Saint Etienne's soundtrack for The Misacventures of Margaret. Of cours my all time favorite soundtrack and movie is Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
