I'd prefer a faster processor and longer battery life.
I have to agree with you that these, plus perhaps more storage are, more vital than going 4up on the pixel count. Especially right now when the only thing that could be served by a higher resolution would be blu-ray quality videos and they aren't out in the market yet (unless you want to spend the time to rip your disks)
Screen wise, something that doesn't work as a mirror and doesn't suck up oil etc all the time should come first
You continue to be astoundingly hilarious. DisplayPort is not only an open standard, it's free to adopt. You can't fit six HDMI ports on a graphics card, but ATI puts that many Mini DisplayPort on its high-end graphics walls.
You continue to be astoundingly clueless. I have never seen a display port on a non Apple monitor. I have never seen a projector with a display port, an LCD TV with a display port, or a plasma TV with a display port. I dont give a flying F!#@ how many you can fit on a card, I only need one port, as long as that port can connect to the devices that are available for me to use as a display. For the Apple fans with no friends, families or jobs, who never leave their well equiped homes, yes DP may actually be superior to HDMI in several respects. For those who want to use an Apple product in the real world, it is useless without adapters.
1) There is a simple VGA kit that's been available to connect iPad to projectors for months now.
2) 7.1 audio!!??? I doubt that they do 7.1 audio in presentations at Pixar or Lucas, let alone at any other real company. Silliest feature I ever seen suggested.
Why are Apple fans so closed minded to the possibilities hardware enables? An HDMI port is not just for business presentations. You could use it to display all sorts of content, including movies, on the hundreds of millions of devices that support HDMI for video and audio but do not and will never support Airplay. Tablets have the capability of becoming a go to device for content creation, editing, and sharing, but it will not happen on the iPad if Apple does not give us the hardware and freedom to do so.
I have to agree with you that these, plus perhaps more storage are, more vital than going 4up on the pixel count. The most vital upgarde is not CPU or storage, it is RAM. The iPad is absolutely crippled by having half the RAM of the iPhone 4. I would be shocked if they did not address this.
Bluray quality movies would not even need the full 4up pixel count either. I would agree going to that level of resolution would be nice but not necessary, I do believe they need to do better than 1024x768 in 2011. Something like 1600x1050 would be more reasonable and easier to achieve in hardware, and I think the software challenges are way overblown. If you really care about 1080 video, the form factor would have to change to give 1920x1080, or the resolution would have to be higher to allow for the black bars, somethign like 1920x1200, but that is getting close to the 4up level.
Really. Businesses have not had a great time the last two years, and they are not upgrading their monitors even when they do upgrade their PC's. That is especially true for monitors in conference rooms and walk up work areas. Monitors with DP are not widespread enough to expect to be able to use it and to expect people to have cables. They are basically still non-existent in any of the places I take an electronic device today, except for the hardcore Apple shops.

So... I just found a nice 6-foot Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable for $11. It is all one white cable. Nothing else needed. Everyone can relax.
Sweet so I can carry a bag full of cables and adapters to go with my super slick iPad, or I could just carry the iPad knowing that any company I go to already has HDMI and VGA cables for their projectors. Hmmmmmm. That goes along with carrying a dock to USB adapter, and dock to SD card adapter, etc. WTF? What is the point of an ultra portable device if you need to hire a caddy to carry your bag of adapters and cables? Does this really make sense to people after they drink the koolaide?
As to Display Port why would anyone want that on a tablet as opposed to a SD slot or USB port? Really that one I dont get at all.

Who is doing all of these presentations?
Furthermore, who is doing them in an environment that requires HDMI output?
For tethered presentations, might I introduce you to the iPad VGA cable. Looks great, works great, universal among projectors, and keeps you nice and tethered, rendering your iPad almost useless as a presentation device.
I don't see Display Port even being a consideration for the iPad. Apple is going with AirPlay, because it leaps a few years ahead of Display Port.

It seems it doesn't. I gave up after finding myself in Italy on holiday with a load of content on my iphone/ipad, and no way to output it to the different tv's in the hotels. I was there for a month so I needed something other than Euronews.
I ended up selling the ipad and buying a Nokia Booklet (after transferring the content). Single HDMI port, entire problem solved. A real OS too, and an built in 3G modem which I was able to use with a local SIM card for super cheap data.
Apple aren't blazing a trail here, it's being obtuse for 2 reasons: to part you with your cash and to part you with your cash. There's not an argument in the world to say that the choice of a DP over HDMI makes sense for the consumer or business, only Apple.

While it's a given that the iPad will increase its RAM to 512 for version 2, I'd like to see you're justification for iPad being "absolutely crippled" with 256?
It's not. Sure, it can't cache web pages with several apps open. Other than that, what's so crippled about it?
I find that even hefty games designed for the iPhone 4 run expertly on the iPad. No issues.
Your statement is really just assumption, based on the idea that more must be better. Of course more is better. How much better, is the actual question that you don't factor in.
Apple will definitely include 'HD' cameras in the iPad2, as it is so easy to include a camera that is classed as 'HD'. As for specs, and if they even need to include a rear camera is the talking point.
I still think there is a chance of them not including a rear camera, just because I personally can't see the use. Apple only uses/markets the rear camera for iPhone and iPod Touch for taking still shots and videos, and I can't see Apple pushing this as a reason to use a rear camera on the iPad2 (you may use it for this, but looks silly on if advertised this way). And we all know Apple only puts hardware in their products that they believe is useful, regardless of what the rest of the industry is doing.
How can you not see the use for the rear camera?
Ever use the amazon or google bar code scanners for iphone?

What idiot goes somewhere to make presentations and relies on the place you are going make the presentation to have the cable you need for that presentation?
You're trying to force a round peg into a square hole.
It's a standard. It's royalty-free. This isn't ADC, for crying out loud.

By what? There aren't enough grammatically-correct places to put emoticons in this sentence.

AirPlay negates the reasoning for either port on the iPad. You buy an Apple TV and stream to your TV via it.
Did I say ANYTHING about it being a "nice" solution? It's Apple's solution.

Gee, I hadn't thought of that.

I am a teacher. This would allow me to show powerpoint presentations from the ipad, rather than having to drag my laptop around.
And you can't do that right now for exactly what reason?
I always have my iphone with me. Why do I need another camera. Waste of space and money.
Here's another example that shows you're mostly uninformed of the products you chose to criticize.
The cameras are for FaceTime. End of discussion.
