 Mulattabianca, trying to read your typing, is like trying to read your website <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Guess I need to learn Italian

I have been to France once, while in the Navy. Beautiful country, some nice people. But you can tell some just can't stand American tourists.

That is just one country I will probably avoid if I ever get back to Europe

I don't want to start a flame-war on this but in case you understand German <a href="http://www.zeit.de/2002/37/Reisen/200237_new_york.neu.html"; target="_blank">read this nice article about a French trying to visit New York</a>. This shit is tolerated in US border guards as well...

@ZO: Yeah, I hope that guy gets what he deserves.

i think we all seem to agree that border/customs guards are usually the worst people to deal with... and unfortunately the first contact one has with a new or foreign country.

The friendliest border guards I have ever dealt with was in Honduras.

They let me play with their machine guns and baretta pistols. I let them play with the controls of the plane.

Well, I was flying in medical supplies so that might have been a cause for their unsual enthusiasm toward me.

You guys ever travelled around Eastern Europe? Was on the Polish/Czech border the other day and my car was searched not once, not twice but 3 times by 3 separate guards. I was on my way to Prague and had to cross Poland as the main road (E55) is closed because of severe damage because of recent folding. I got through (and I have blue eyes BTW) but it took hour and a half to cross the border, yet there was no queue.

The funny thing is that I had forgot some small peace of stuff (some of us think should be legalized) in my pocket. I first found that out after arriving in my rented apartment in Prague. Probably wouldn't be here writing about it if they had found it. Anyway, that night I just had a burn and had good laugh about it but will be more carefull next time around

ZO and Mulattabianca! Damn, I'm sorry to hear these storys - both of them, in their own ways, pisses me off so much... ah, I don't know what to say except:

    Hope you recover fast mulattabianca!

All I can say to ZO's story is, The EU? My arse. I has never worked and it never will. What a disaster, dreamt up by politicians - politicians, I ask you - who created a nice little bureaucratic gravy train for themselves. The United States of Europe? Yeah sure, dream on. It makes me so angry

The only sane people in Europe are the Brits who in every poll about joining the Mick?y Mouse currency that is the Euro give the finger by about 70% to 30%.

The whole concept is just one big joke, and it is sure not going to get any better with the expansion plans hedged out mainly by France and Germany. Germany? As if they don't have enough problems as it is... With a chancellor who sues a news agency for reporting that he dies his hair. Sheessh

Europe? You can keep it as far as I am concerned.

Sorry, to read about your experience, ZO, but that's the way it is.

Oh, sorry Kelib forgot to mention the Danes: they, of course, also voted against the ?uro when they were given the choice in a referendum. And not many governments gave their citizens that choice.

Unfortunately TI, I believe 110% in the European Union. These are blips on the vast radar screen

As in the USA we have anachronistic habits (like the common stereotype of the southern hill billy that hates all foreigners, the KKK, etc etc).

Every country, including the UK and Tobleronistan (How I call Switzerland with my Swiss friends ), has its fair share of 'blips on the radar screen'.

The only way we can get along and survive on this lonely planet is intergrating and trying to get along. No one said it would happen over night and I dont think anyone ever expected it to.

The world gets smaller every year that goes by. Imagine if we still had real borders that took 3 hours to get through in every European country! Driving from France to Denmark would take you a week! Not a half day!

The Swiss have been stuck between the alps since forever and have been neutral since forever... so be it. You dont want to be part of the EU? Fine.

I love Europe and I'm a twenty-something who lives it and breathes it every day and not a single person my age that I know is against it. Its brought me to have my best friends to be composed of Finns, Swedes, Belgians, Swiss, Italians, Spanish.... and the list goes on.

Dont try and destroy something that will never go away, if anything, help make it better! Don't like certain things? Well, pitch in!

Sorry... but talking about the EU always makes me happy since its something I would never and could never doubt.
