However, assuming the parts continue to arrive at Foxconn?s facility, it appears that Foxconn will have the ability to produce around 80 ? 150 million iPad 2s this year, if they felt they could sell them.
...iCal 4.0 adopts an appearance similar to the iPad Calendar, with a leather bound top...
At best, I'm hoping this is an April Fool's joke and we're not going to see any more "iPad wannabe GUI implementation" surface in Lion.
And at worst... since Address Book is confirmed to have a new faux book GUI, this could very well be the real deal. Odd that the same company who ships beautiful, functional objects will cave in to graphic designer boredom and go for tacky.
Apple had made quite a bit of progress towards unifying OS X's UI with 10.5/10.6... such a shame to see good work get covered with a thick layer of cheese. \
I don't like it. However, if Apple thinks it works, at least allow users to convert to the old look. Don't make the same mistake made with the Safari 4 beta where Apple released the Beta with Tabs on Top. The tech press hated the tabs on Top, but public polls showed a 50/50 split. Instead of releasing the Beta with the Tabs on Top feature at least in the form of an option, it got rid of it all together. Now all the popular browsers put the tabs on top because it makes more sense.
Ugghhh....Thats okay in Full Screen view (which is why things like this look great on the iPad, which essentially becomes the app). But to have it in Windowed mode, where it clashes atrociously with other apps' consistent Window UIs is just a bad idea.
I actually think it's fine, but I agree that this is probably where they are coming from. In Lion many apps have a full screen mode, and in that case you don't have to worry about consistency with other apps that might be visible at the same time. The calendar is actually an app that benefits from a lot of space, so I will probably give it it's own screen in Lion.
When Lion comes out I wonder if there will be a thread about what apps to use full screen and what to use on a desktop.
Don't worry, they'll delete all your events in the data-migration.
I'm actually taking that leap this weekend, right after I make triple redundant backups of all my calendar data!
And I think I just realized why iCal's event data entry window is so horrible. Apple doesn't want you to clutter up their calendar designs with a bunch of appointments on your calendar, er, I mean their calendar!
Apple's iCal 4.0 in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion's second Developer Preview adopts an iPad appearance and a new annual view.
Both the iPad and MobileMe calendars present a Day view as an open book, Week and Month views as a tear off calendar pad, and a List view that depicts upcoming event in a spiral bound section next to a torn-page Day view.
Lion's iCal presents the same torn page look for every view. Also different between the MobileMe and Lion version is the To Do list, which is represented as a tear off pad next to the calendar; in Lion's iCal, the To Do list is a conventional list that doesn't quite fit into the "torn page" appearance.
Will the new iCal be so 'advanced' that it includes an optional ISO week number to be displaced? This seems to be a standard requirement in all countries - except the United States.
And will tasks finally get Start Dates, Duration, Context and Project so that they will be usable? At present, I am forced to use OmniFocus on Mac and iOS devices for tasks, and Pocket Informant on iOS devices for calendars. BusyCal solves the missing week number on the Mac but for sure I hope that a PI for Mac will later be available.
Definitely. One thing is some leather but when the buttons are leather, too, someone is taking the piss. When i went back to take another look I laughed. Its funny. Bad funny.
On a somewhat different note - I use Calvetica for my iPhone. (http://calvetica.com/) If only Apple could produce something that cool. iCal, Mail and Safari are beginning to look a little old imo. IOS iPad address book app looks dreadful
Still no week numbers? Please Apple, take your customers seriously!
Edit: I also don't like the way the buttons are presented:
In this case, the button labeld 'Week' should be pushed, and not the other buttons. Have you ever seen an old TV work like the way Apple shows here? "In order to choose a certain preset channel, press all the buttons around the button that represents the channel of your choice." That just doesn't work.

I?ll give you the point on the week numbers. I use iStat Menus and have replaced my clock with their options which has a dropdown calendar with a week numbers option. Luckily it?s not something I need within ical itself. Also has world clocks and phases of the moon. Quite handy.
The point on the buttons I disagree with. it is raised because that is the one that is active. It?s representing a slider, not a button one pressed in order to activate a physical switch. You can click on the depressed areas to change the buttons but the virtual action is a sliding of the button.
You can also click and drag the button from one area to the other to see a nifty animation of the text and button width. This is system wide, it?s just on this faux leather that it looks completely wrong.
I thought I was way out there -- when I predicted 60 million iPads in CY 2011 (All versions).
Hey Dick... you too, eh? I got some serious money riding on 40 and 50mil with AAPL.... but only side-betting with me buddies (double-downed last weak: clouded by Bitburger) at 60. I'm just not sure they can make them fast enough, regardless of any reports coming out of Asia saying they can or not.
For those that "love it", please do us all the favor and request a "Preference setting" to enable/disable the "Faux-Leather look" in iCal and Address Book.
Thanks in advance
Edit: awe forget it! That's what I get for following links: I just viewed that http://fuglyandroid.tumblr.com/ page and forthrightly ripped my eyes out! Jeez! I'm a tolerant guy, but... oh the pain!!!!
Am I the only one that thinks the leather-bound metaphor is wrong on a desktop OS? Brushed metal looks great compared to this
The next thing you will see is that apps for Windows will sport brownish colors (just like the best-selling Zune), a color MS already has experience with.
Unfortunately, there are other things beside leather that are brown.
On a more serious note, leather is also pretty common on the desktop. I have several leather gadgets lying in my closet that were given to me as Christmas presents, that I should have used on my desk: a calender stand, an agenda cover, cylindrical pen holders, etc., but never did.

I don't like how they put "AppleInsider" in there.
Big step backwards GUI-wise.
What was Apple thinking?

Probably is. All the photos say April Fools!

Here is an example:
Fake leather? On a computer screen? Um, no.
Using your reference, everything is fake on the screen.
Apple, some like the natural look of leather and wood. Just give us the option.

visit the link here at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and let Apple know what you think of this absolutely horrid design choice.

LOL looks like we all thought the same thing at first look.
