I think they're both quite of the skankitude (deal with it, Shawn ), but Christina has, by FAR, the better voice. I've seen her on a couple of shows where she's singing a ballad or something that really puts her pipes/range to work and she has a really good, powerful voice.
I don't like J Lo's singing, what little I've heard (the singles and videos). I don't think she's a true, true "singer" as much as someone who can carry a decent tune.
Something about both of them can be extremely sexy at times (even when the skankosity meter is spiking), but, all in all, neither one are quite my cup of tea, appearance-wise and musically.
But if you held a gun to my head and forced me to choose between the two (to sit through a concert or purchase a CD), I'd definitely have to go with Christina.
I'd rather just pop in my DVD of "Out of Sight" and remember J Lo from that era. Hubba!

I too lamented her entry into the pop-music fold, but I think she has something to offer that we have not seen from the other pop-stars like Britney and Christina. You see, I'd just like to know for what reasons you consider J.Lo a skank. It just doesn't fit her quite rightly. If you simply refer to the fact that's she's not a saint because she has had more than one sexual partner outside marriage, then your comment really has little merit. I'm just guessing here and assuming you're not married, but you would probably have to call your girlfriends skanks too since I'm sure they had to have had sex outside marriage. And then if you ever had sex outside marriage, aye, isn't that hypocritical and sexist? However, the other part of that definition describes one who is disgustingly foul or filthy- something that undeniably applies more to Christina than to J.Lo. In fact, I don't see how it applies at all the latter. I think you're just voicing your trash-talking opinion about some beautiful girl who, oh no, has sex outside marriage, and oh my, wears beautiful, classy clothes. I could be wrong. Though when you compare Versaci gowns to crotchless pants, I do not see how there can be even a moment's deliberation on who's more of a skank.
in terms of image, christina wins the title of "skank". hands down. the girl has no fashion sense whatever. she covers up her unremarkable features with heroin-chic-throwback eyeshadow and her skinny little body by, well, covering as little as possible. and she uses all that to cover up her unremarkable voice. its a classic case of trying to hard. i wish i could chalk up her chaps-outfit in "dirrty" to being pure costume for the video (hey, understandable), but take a look at her awards shows outfits:
SCARY!
sure, j.lo is constantly happily revealing her assets, but if you wanna push the envelope, push it with versace et al. i personally loved that dress. its all about balance: low cut, but loose drape, understated hair and makeup. show nipple for all i care! but do it gracefully. she may not be the most accomplished singer or actress around, but she knows how to make the most of what she has.
Shawn, you don't really know me and I assure you I'm no wild-eyed Bible thumper condemning "sex outside of marriage" (I engage in it whenever possible, so...), so you might need to re-adjust your image of who I am/what I think regarding the whole J Lo thing.
I swear to God, you'd think she was your sister or something the way you've been defending her for a week now over some throwaway comment I made in that other thread.
What do you care what I think about a celebrity and why I think that?
I've said a couple of very nice things about J Lo (said she was pretty in some other films, can carry a tune, is quite sexy at times, etc.), so be happy with that.
If she is your sister or something, then I apologize for any insults. I didn't know.
No, the point of the song is that despite those riches and despite her fame, she has or at least sings about staying humble as a virtue. You can't look at a line in isolation and deny its contribution to the overall message of the song. It's called the fallacy of taking something out of context. As far as your concept of "diminished measure of fortune," in no way does J.Lo deny that she is rich or belie that fact. She acknowleges that but says it has not changed who she is- and the message is undeniably that of humility, In fact, the above quote is something to which I already responded. Get on the ball, freak.

ok, perhaps i did miss the point. she was singing about how humility should be a virtue and such. and that people should be humble. but i am not convinced that she (herself) was presenting this message in a humble manner.

there are other factors that relate to how skanky a chik is. and many factors which contribute to the classiness (or lack of classiness) of an outfit.
i agree with ur overall point tho [or what i perceived ur point to be], that christinas message is less amicable. but, u havent convinced me that j. lo is humble. she was clearly trying to show off her wealth and success (and body) in that dress. and the song was hardly a good display of humility.

It's nice that we agree on certain points. I think what you're confused about is exactly the point J.Lo wants to make- that someone who is rich and famous should also show humility. Her point is made more concrete both by contrasting her rich lifestyle and fame to singing about remaining true to her past and by downplaying her riches and fame. I have the video in mpeg format if you want it...excellent for frame by frame viewing.
Actually, I have no idea what you "want from me" (although I sometimes wonder and think I have an idea, perverse as it may be).
I mean, is this the digital equivalent of pulling my hair or shooting spitballs at me? Because if I was a girl and we were seven years old and we were on a playground...
There are over 6,000 members here at AI, Shawn. For the love of all that is holy, pick one of THEM to annoy and harangue for a while.
As for "back door concession", whatever.
In short, bug off. You're fücking up my fun here and making me wish I'd stayed away longer (being as how you were a huge part of the reason I took a break from here to begin with).
roo, one girl is too fat and another is too skinny... Are you one of those girls that hates the idea of better looking women running around in the world? I could hate all the better looking men in the world, but there just isn't enough time, not even for the ones in this neighborhood. Let the boys ogle in peace, it's meaningless.
Am I the only one who thinks they are both too skinny? Heck, it would be like bonking a twiglet (do you have twiglets in the states?).

Twiglets, yes, but um... "bonking"?
pscates - I'd be very careful about conceding your "back door" to SPJ.
Oh my, we really are two countries separated by the same language...
It's the Willy versus Johnson(?) thing all over again.
I think you're going to have to use your imagination on this one.

It's okay, I got it. Just needed to figure out what a typical guy would like to do with Jennifer or Christina, therefore "bonking" = taking her home to meet mother. Right?

But yes, it means taking her home for afternoon tea and jam scones with mother.

wow, you people take your ogling seriously...
i wasn't trying to come down on the ogling, i thought i was jumping in to this funny discussion of who's skankier.... can i not have an opinion on who's skankier because i'm female? and i never said j.lo was too fat, i just observed she had a large ass, but never said it was ugly. it's more like one of those things that make you stare and wonder. plus, i don't hate beautiful women, though there's always that little voice in my head praying they'll trip and fall... (just kidding! joke! don't pounce on me for that!).
Listen man, you want it both ways. On one hand you refuse to justify your comments that J.Lo is a skank, something I have requested three different times. On the other hand you refuse to concede that you're wrong. Dude, I don't care about that petty nonsense you're spewing in that last post. I care about issues, and, yeah I would take interest in baseless comments that go assumed here. Now who's the bastion of those...
The only thing impressive about Christina Aguilera is how successful she is doing the over-singing that millions of other girls around the world can do just as well.
"went slutty", Thug Life? You say that like she wasn't selling her body from the beginning.
What a sad sad state of affairs. Learn to spell, stupid whore.
