Not ALL Best Buys had enough iPads, only some. They run a national ad. Because maybe 20% of their stores are near Apple stores and are receiving very little product do you think they would "stop the presses". Hell no! Are you actually surprised that they would run a promotion without having adequate stock? Have you ever worked?anywhere? Even grocery stores pull this kind of nonsense. It's just to get people through front door.

I'm being honest about what is happening. There's nothing wrong with holding Best Buy and Apple's feet to the fire a bit when they are being disingenuous. Quit being an Apple apologist. You define fanboy. Do you spend your time just perusing comment sections looking for opportunities to defend Apple? I promote Apple every chance I get. The manager I spoke with seemed genuinely frustrated with the lack of available products.

Oh for god's sake, chill. I questioned the likelihood of Best Buy running an iPad promotion when Apple had actually pulled all the iPads in a fit of pique, which is what you were claiming, not that they merely had "inadequate stock." Or have you forgotten your story already? Here, let me quote it back to you:

But what really infuriates me is that according to the inventory manager they actually did receive five black 64 GB iPad 2's, only to have them yanked by Apple with zero explanation. When I asked him about the whole "blacklist" thing, he said it was ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

So your story is that Best Buy is running an iPad promotion with no iPads at all, and no hope of getting any, because Apple has blackballed them and pulled all the inventory. And if that sounds far fetched to me its because I "define fanboy."

You define hair trigger internet asshole. And you're very obviously full of shit. That has nothing to do with Apple, it has to do with you. .

If BestBuy held back units, at a time when the product was in heavy demand, Apple was well within its rights to get pissed off. And this is irrespective of the reason - future promotion or not, what BestBuy did was definitely wrong.

In such circumstances, Apple was well within its rights to pull the product from BestBuy. Considering how hot the iPad2 has been, Apple obviously wants to maximize their sales. They don't want disappointed customers buying the Xoom, or PlayBook.

If BestBuy still went ahead with their promotion despite Apple having pulled the stock, it is ENTIRELY BestBuy's fault. There is absolutely no way Apple can be blamed for this.

IMHO, BestBuy got caught in some unethical practices. They came up with a weirdo excuse about a future promotion, which obviously did not fly. They were forced to go ahead with this weirdo promotion just to make this lie true.

This is a simple case of BestBuy screwing up, getting caught, and getting punished - and deservedly so.

It must have been embarrassing to work for Best Buy on Sunday. They either were told to play dumb or just didn't have a clue. When asked about the Sunday ad at several stores I visited, they had a variety of really clueless answers-in one store they seemed to be avoiding the apple section altogether.

First rule of retail is never appear smarter than the customer. That way, the customer thinks you're too dumb to waste their time getting angry on, or thinks you're too low down the food chain to bother pursuing the issue with you... they will seek "higher authority".

And yes, avoiding certain parts of the store, standing in certain areas as opposed to others, these are all standard survival procedures in retail work.

Let's face it, this whole Best Buy situation this past week is FUBAR.
