I see it in two ways: either as simple political cowardness, which I think applies to you and the French in general, or simple indifference, which applies to most of the planet.

And btw, at great risk to being banned again, I?ll say that to me, the Islamic ideology is not much different than that of Nazism. So to me, those that practice that ideology are Nazis. And yes, that would include most of the Arab population, whether they be active murders of Jews and Christians or not.

mika.</strong><hr></blockquote>I actually agree with you, a if and only if you make the stipulation that you are talking about islamists.

Islamisms (or what you would call Islamic nationalism, or extremism) has many many of the same characteristics as historical Fascism.

and strangely enough its also using the same scapegoat that helped solidify the sense of identity of the previouse fascist nationalisms.

An often overlooked quality that I see at work in Islamism that makes it similar to Fascism is a subtle kind of twisted psychological masochism. SOme psychologists actually talk about this in analysing Fascism: its in its desire for a master: a desire that allows them to get their pleasure in complete subjugation and obescience to an Idea that destroys them: it allows the unconsciouse desire for self destruction to manifest itself at first only through the denying of basic pleasures . . . . it is masochism where the pleasure comes from postponing the pleasure for its eventual release in either the goup (the 'true' muslim state, or the nazi reich) or, in the final "purity" of death.

anyway... that's a mouthful .... but basically I think that there are many of the same dynamics . . . amny . . . at play in Islamism as there were in historical Fascism . .

    many mmore as well

Gollum ends up being the one that actually destroys the One Ring of Power when Frodo falters at the end. So Gollum, while being a weird, slimy thing, does end up being quite important overall in the grand scheme of things. </strong><hr></blockquote>

YOU JUST SPOILT THE WHOLE DAMN THING FOR ME, NOAH!

Hey let?s have a vote to see how accurate I was. Assign each character a value from (?5) to (+5). Zero is neutral. Let?s see how each of us does. Obviously mine will be (+5) for all of them.

Overall average of +1. However, You and Rashumon should switch chracters I think. Gandalf was not as quick to a fight as Gimli, and Gimli was not as diplomatic as Gandalf.
