What do you expect for gifts this year?

I wouldn't be shocked if my wife got me a powerbook this year. She has a knack for getting overprice gifts we can't afford. Not that powerbook is over priced but $3000 on Christmas gift is too much. But I could be wrong. She wants to go to Paris this summer too so? ?

    Cue Matsu!

I'm kinda tough to buy for because I generally buy the stuff for myself that would be a reasonable Xmas gift.

I've been lobbying for a bunch of people to get me an iPod, but it doesn't look good.

Thank you for the intro. Yes, it is.

As for the topic, nothing. I'm one of those hard to buy for people in that I'm really not all that interested in getting gifts. Bring yourself, bring food, bring wine! Don't really need anything, don't really want anything. I hate shopping and wouldn't want to subject anyone else to it on my behalf.

i'm really lucky this year, as i am right now writing this on my new tibook , which i guess is an early christmas present/really-late high school graduation "we'll upgrade you when you want to" present. anyway, from my dad i expect some sort of thing for my new tibook- software, ipod, etc, anything geeky! from my mom, a day (oh, who am i kidding, we'll be doing this the whole time i'm home) of shopping. from my bf... no, it would take all the fun out of christmas for me to tell him exactly what i want here... i really have everything i need now that i have the tibook, anything else is icing on my cake.

I gave a lot of iPods as gifts last year. They made perfect gifts - my techie friends loved them, my music friends loved them, the packaging was gorgeous, and they're a cinch to wrap.

As for what to expect this year... I'm not really sure. My friends are very good at finding books for me that I haven't read, despite being a complete book-nerd.

I'm looking forward to not getting a bunch of uncomfortable "Merry Christmas, sorry to hear you have cancer" cards this year.

This is going to sound like something from an awful Christmas TV movie (you know the ones, with John Ritter or the guy from My Two Dads), but my best gift this year is a family that is willing to have an outsider stay for Christmas.

JBL Creature's (though a bit late), clothes, money, a nutcracker (one of those expensive ones- i collect), and the usual mom gifts like socks and underwear.

Me too! All my loved ones got iPods last year. I was counting on Apple to release another 'kicker' before this year's shopping season, and, well, now I actually have to go OUTSIDE for cripen peters sake and look for something 'suitable'. Yeesh.

On a happier note, my lover is turning 30 this year on the 28th (I know, I know, damn Capricorns) so she's always been jipped on her birthday....and I'm planning on taking her to Bequia to celebrate her 'coming of age'.

Isn't that at 33 in Hobbit years? iDunno, Belle, the feet, all the preemptive hobbit threads, you're preempting her coming of age by 3 years it seems.

I hear, for scientific types, that aging begins at 27; that is, at 27 none of your organs are growing any longer and you begin to degrade, albeit slowly. Hmmm... I figure I can keep growing if I start early, and get a nice middle aged spread going now, I might delay old age? The belly isn't an organ technically, but it damn well should be! OK, bye.

She's mature for her age .

The 'preemptive RotK' thing was a joke. I check here every day and today I see....what?....3 more preemptive threads about movies that aren't even coming out for months? At least Belle's thread was timely and proper ( 2 of Bell's better characteristics I'm sure). Anyways, the thread was locked within minutes by an unknown. Bygones.

Feet? Haven't a clue what you're talking about. I shave frequently.

BTW Belle, that 'Outsider' you're inviting into your home wouldn't happen to be Defiant would it?

Unfortunately, I'm the outsider. I'm spending the holidays with a friend and her family. As for Defiant, I did offer him a place to sleep, but the crocodile enclosure at Steve Irwin's zoo didn't seem to appeal to him for some reason.

Poor Charlie Brown. He had it tough, that kid. Though I guess you don't find many gifts that rock more than, well, a rock.

Damn! I got my wife the wrong camera. I bought one last week and tonight she said which one she wanted. She can return it if she wants.

I'm pretty sure my parents got me the Back to the Future trilogy on DVD. I just saw it on display at Walmart last night, and saw my wrapped present this morning. Same size. And seeing as though my dad said that they want to get me something that I want -- and that's the only thing I've asked for, I'm thinking I'm spot on.

As for what my other gift from my "secret sibling" drawing will be...not a clue.

I've thought about what I should get myself for Christmas (I think it's important that we all get ourselves a present, too!). I may get an iPod from CompUSA or something, but that seems a bit excessive since I'm saving up for a down-payment on a car.

    Any suggestions?

Socks. I told everybody that's what I wanted. I hate the idea of people tearing their hair out and busting their budget for a gift for me. They'll probably ignore my request but I really wish they wouldn't. I can always use socks.
