These are a few of my favorite things...

Was feeling kinda cozy and content this morning about a lot of things, just thinking. Then I started thinking about all the "little things" I dig or that bring me joy, even if small or silly or fleeting. You know, things I kinda look forward to and savor?

Here goes:

- upcoming previews/trailers at the start of theatrical movies. If I arrive late for a movie, I sometimes skip it if I can't see the trailers

- ABBA (found an old QuickTime clip of "Dancing Queen" I snagged from Limewire on my iMac last night. Great pop music and the two girls were quite sexy, in that dated, 70's kinda way...makes me smile)

- Land O' Lakes butter (over popcorn, with a little salt, is THE BEST movie-snack ever)

- Irish Spring soap

- TLC's "Trading Spaces"

- Subway tuna sandwiches

- OS X and all the little things I discover or stumble upon nearly everytime I'm messing around on my iMac

- iTunes (if I could have only one program...)

- flannel sheets on a king-size bed, tucked in nice and tight at the bottom and sides

- Norm Abram and the "New Yankee Workshop"

- girls with "that look"

- morning hair (I always give myself a good chuckle when I first see myself in the morning: kinda like Keith Richards meets Brian Setzer, with a dash of Kato Kaelin thrown in for good measure...one day I'm going to be brave and just go about my day looking like that)

- TV remote controls

- Black Cherry Kool-Aid

- the smell of gasoline

- choosing my own Lotto numbers

- a really good pee (not trying to be tacky, but when you REALLY need to go and you finally get a chance to...well, it's just a great feeling )

- The smell of cedar

- getting an oil change (I would've said "lube job", but that could be taken in SO many ways...)

- Sunspots hitting the couch just right, when I'm in a magazine reading mood

- A REALLY cold beer with REALLY good Mexican food

- Chili's chips & salsa

- Dr. Pepper (duh...)

- the color orange, in all its shades, textures and ranges (see Dr. Pepper comment...)

- women with nice smelling hair

- 38-year-old (and up) sexy women (don't get me started...)

- Barnes & Noble at 9:30pm

- Krispy Kreme donut...ONLY if they're hot and fresh (that red neon "Hot Now!" sign has to be flashing...)

- Cheesy movies like "Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man" and "The Last Boy Scout"

- Christopher Walken

- Sheryl Crow's mouth (and the rest of her too, while we're at it...)

- AppleInsider forums (96% of the time...)

- maccentral.com

- the build-up before a Macworld expo

- watching the Macworld keynote and that feeling of "oh man, here it comes..."

- Did I mention the color orange?

- Adobe Illustrator 10 (and every version before)

- IKEA

- My Gibson J-45...it sounds sweeter every time I pick it up. I'll own it forever.

- Old Pat Benatar songs (takes me back)

- Brian Setzer and everything about him

- Keith Richards (see Brian Setzer)

- drink coasters

- people watching at airports

- finding out someone who you kinda like and dig on feels the same toward you...that luscious period of time where you BOTH know it but haven't acted on anything yet. Just that wonderful feeling of "yeah...this is going to be nice..."

- dark nail polish on girls

- young women who dress conservatively, but older women who show a little tummy or thigh (I know...the opposite of what it should be, right?)

- Realizing (by any number of methods) that a woman is wearing a certain kind of underwear that you happen to find very sexy (that's all I'm going to say about this...)

- Putting the TV on the sleep timer and drifting off to Conan O'Brien's show. Fall asleep chuckling so you don't have bad dreams.

- polar bears

- autumn

- the way apples smell (the fruit, geeks! )

- when I'm in the mood for it, a good thick pizza with everything on it

- garlic bread

- a Fender Telecaster with thick strings on it

- driving fast

- and sometimes, driving slow

- rain, when I'm home, safe and sound, and getting ready for bed

- thunder & lightning (see rain)

- roller coasters

- bluegrass music done right

- certain women with toe rings

- QVC

- NASCAR Winston Cup racing on Sundays...half my day revolves around it and it's great!)

- When my driver wins

- Home Depot on a Saturday afternoon

- Target anytime

- Seeing a PC user realize that there is indeed a "better way" (just happened to me recently...I've caused yet another "switch")

- Baskin-Robbins banana royale

- $5 bills

- state quarters

- getting all green lights

- biscuits and gravy made by my grandmother

- cuddling with cutie-pie vixen and just "talking about life"

- greyhound racing

- Post banana nut bread cereal

And you?

the heating for our whole house is pipes that run hot water just under the tile in our house, so in the winter our floor is the source of heating...the floors are always toasty warm...it is so sweet...

and when i lived in PA for a couple of my teen years we lived on the river...it was just after a hurricane had come up the coast and flooded out large sections of the river...so if you walked in the river you would sink up passed your ankles in thick, gooey silt....it felt so wrong, yet made me tingle in places i would rather not mention

as for other things (and nice "small" list there phoebe cates brother):

biting into hard sweet baby carrots

wrestling with the dog...especially when he is sleepy and doesn't really want to

a good, thick, dark beer after a hard day at work

watching my daughters sleep....don't do that much anymore that they are bigger (can't stay up as late as they do)....but when they where infants, then toddlers....nothing more lovely than a child sleeping...could make angels cry

kicking a rock down the street

    spooning

tearing christmas wrap off presents (no looking for the tape shit for me)

peeling the labels off my beer without tearing it

    chewing ice

    watching "i love the 80's" on vh1

trying to talk and walk like ozzy

    first pee of the day

women in sundresses and bare feet

the way toddlers walk with that almost falling frankenstein waddle

sitting at the bar up in the balcony of a local music club watching the Ataris play and seeing my daughter go crowd surfing up to the stage....it may be a sign that i am getting older to see that, but it sure was funny...and she looked so happy....so that was cool.....g

Chatting to people on MSN and making them feel better.

Squeezing out a turd that's not too hard, not too soft and comes out at juuuuuust the right rate.

Thinking of my favourite things, getting all whimsical and fuzzy, realising that I'm a geek, then realising that i don't care.

Wow, those are good lists. I did one of my favorites tonight: just got back from Barnes & Noble. Looked at the magazines, calendars, design and Mac books, graphic design books, did some people-watching from a chair while flipping through one of those British Mac magazines, etc.

Oh, and I thumbed through and skimmed a chapter (and looked at the pictures) of that new Patricia Cornwell book where she "solves" the identity of Jack the Ripper. Pretty cool stuff. Just saw her on C-Span tonight, talking about it. Probably what made me go to Barnes & Noble to begin with.

Too bad I don't drink coffee. Would've been perfect (there's a Starbucks in there). If only it tasted as good as it smells.

Since I was out, I also went to Best Buy, Target and grabbed some "to go" chips and salsa from Chili's (ooh, ANOTHER one of my favorite things from my list above...wow, I'm just having a very cool day).

I drove to the Gateway Store (talked about in another thread) to possibly tweak a hapless sales clerk about their inclusion of a Titanium PowerBook in one of their ads, but, alas, they were already closed.

I was just in the mood to do it too!

By the way, Best Buy sells iPods. I didn't know that. However, they are the Windows models (no Mac ones at all!), but they had them in all sizes (5, 10 and 20GB models).

I thought that was interesting. Target carries both version (Mac AND PC).

I don't get the "phoebe cates brother" thing above. Is that a reference to ME?

Is she that girl in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"?

My user name has nothing to do with her: it's my first initial and last name.

I think one of the best feelings would have to be the thrill and elation that comes from leading that 90 foot 5.9 climb over a beautiful canyon.

An all too infrequent hug from my parents.
