As I understand it, sampling != production. Sampling just means they're churning out enough for customers to build test mules around.
That's one reason why I'm not expecting a radically faster iBook at MWSF: There'll be nothing faster to put in it. By Tokyo, maybe, now that it's going to be held well into March. But I'd look for a 700MHz model then. Unless Apple ditches the G3 in the iBook, it'll be the last Macintosh to cross the GHz line, sometime in late 2002.
If the iBook gets Apollo, then anything goes. But I'm not sure if that's the right chip for the model.
