We all know that Twitter is sooo difficult to use.
What next? Will it compose tweets for me?
Agreed. You've got options like tweet, retweet by you, retweet by others, your tweets, retweeted, @mentions...WTH? I don't get it. Besides, I've got all my stuff on FB already.
Too many interesting reply as per below that I need to quote but put simply, i dont use Tweeter or Facebook or your whatnot and I couldn't give a fuss either so hope I could have them settings hidden. Agree on those who's in the same boat with me. We're the Elitist!

The way I use Twitter is fairly standard though I do lock my account to keep it private. It's not for my family, which I reserve for Facebook, just for my friends.
You send messages much like you would on this forum. It's a single message that any and all can see. Then you can reply to a specific person or persons, or just create a thread/message that has nothing to do with any other topic.
You also read news from others. Maybe from friends you personally know and follow or other people and sites you follow jut because you feel they have interesting things to express. Stand-up comedians and writers aree pretty funny with the one liners, but mostly I use it for news and media organizations.
It's much like Facebook's wall and if all you're going to follow are your Facebook friends there is little need. It's much like RSS and Gogole News Feeds and if all you're going to do is get news there is little need. If you want a way to interact with groups of friends and get news in a convenient capsule its great.
A nice feature for celebrities — which helped make it famous and made it hard for many to understand its utility — is that it puts them in control of their own gossip and lets their fan interact with them more directly and considerably faster.
For example, Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson). Not only does he post interesting and geeky facts throughout the day, but he also asked questions and replies to his followers.
I won't say that I initially understood Twitter. In fact I thought I was the last person to "get it" but I have been using it for a couple years now I can say with absolute certainty that it has a viable utility (but that doesn't mean for everyone).
One thing I don't think I've seen in this thread is the questioning of one's own feelings toward Twitter. Apple has integrated it within iOS to the point there is a default option for it in Settings. I'd think that would make anyone on this forum who doesn't "get it" reexamine their position.
idk I kinda like Twitter. Yesterday my bud @joeblow and I checked out bit.ly/abd and it was primo. Thought 2 myself tweeps should do this #shitmydadsays
LOL
Twitter is what you make of it. Garbage in garbage out. You know the drill.
My guess is that Apple approached Facebook (or maybe Facebook approached Apple?) when they were in the construction phase of iOS 5, and the meeting went something like this:
Apple: Hi Facebook, we're planning iOS 5, the next major version of our mobile/device platform, and we wanted to talk to you about integrating some of your features/capabilities into our operating system.
Facebook (because the company is run by a bunch of punk-ass kids):<to themselves>WOW! AWESOME! This will give us full access to all kinds of awesome data from millions of awesome users!! We'll be able to track users' locations in real-time, we'll be able to tap into their cameras, we'll have full access to their contact lists. Oooo! We could probably even tap into iWork and iPhoto other apps as they're being uploaded/synced to iCloud. ZOMG!! SOOOO MUCH USER DATA!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHH!!! AWESOME!!!</to themselves>
<to Apple>Hey, that sounds great! Okay, all we'll need to make this work is full, unlimited access to iCloud, and all user data contained therein, including, users' contact lists, iWork data, iPhoto data, geolocation data (in real time), full access to device cameras (including being able to remotely activate the camera—you know, in case we want to, not that we would!); full push/pull capability (behind the scenes, in the background), and full rights to install any apps and collect any data we want to at any time, for any reason. And we would own full, exclusive rights to that data in perpetuity.</to Apple>
The Twitter integration in iOS 5 runs so deep, in fact, that Apple has included in a link to "Install Now" in the native Settings application. From there, users are sent to the App Store where the official, free Twitter client for iOS can be installed.
So if I don't install this, then will my apps all be free of this cluttered crap?

You'll still see Twitter in the list Settings, but that will be the only place I can find it will show up. It won't be an icon on your desktop because you haven't installed the app.
In Settings under Twitter there is also a place to input your Twitter account username and password. You can leave this blank.

Its up to you to install the app, or to use a 3rd party application like Tweetbot (highly recommended if you use Twitter). This integration doesn't really add anything new. You've had the ability to post video from your camera roll directly to YouTube, for example.
With iOS 5, you'll just have a new option called "Tweet." It'll be in the same vain as sending an MMS or email is today. System-wide availability if you want to use it. If not, no big deal.

I've got Twiiter, I use it sometimes, I don't really understand it.
Well, now that Apple is involved, they will make it simple enough that anybody can understand it. That is what they are best at.
