It was $800 worth of jerseys, not the Hummer that did him in.

I suppose if he was going pro anyway it's no big deal, but there's such a whoreish vibe to the wooing of high school athletes these days.

To the guys in big cities: Do high-profile prep athletes get busted like this often, or was it the national spotlight on James?

Kobe didn't get this kind of ill treatment, but Kobe was much more low-key. Lebron has been pimping himself as the next big thing for ages...he's had his own promotional website forever.

Cool. New plan for colleges. A star kid won't come to your school because he wants to go to your rival? Have a sports store buddy give him a few jerseys or some shoes. Problem goes away.

Now he gets to go out and sign his $20 million shoe contract early...but I have to say, this seems inda bogus to me. How fair is this to his teammates? Frankly I don't see how these shirts are a bad thing...they didn't come froma recruit, and agent, etc. Kinda sucks, though I'm not shedding any tears for him...not like he doesn't have a future.

I think it's just the fact that they're $800 and he got them for free.

Well, if this guy is as good as everyone (and himself) seems to be saying, I truly wish him the best. I hope he can keep his head on straight and maybe someone can come along to teach such a young person that the sudden onslaught of money, pussy, material things, etc. isn't the end-all/be-all and that he doesn't - like so many others in the national spotlight have done - piss it away with arrogant, childish off-court behavior, getting surrounded by less-than-savory hangers-on, etc.

Someone with talent should exploit it and not piss it away.

Reading stuff about this kid, I think someone is going to have to be employed just to keep his ego in check.

I know that if I were in his position, I'd let a lot of stuff go to my head. I'd WANT there to be someone there going "hey, you're kinda overdoing it, Paul...".

I guess we'll see his name and likeness everywhere in a few years then? Maybe he'll have a long, successful Jordan-esque type of run?

College, professional sports suck. It's sports. A game. Nothing should be more simple. But some believe that sports is a God send...just a game.

Kobe was more low-key and not as physically gifted.

Ooooh, a website. I hadn't really heard of him until the pay-per-view crap came out and I consider myself someone who follows sports fairly regularly.

Re: his teammates. He's given them 2 state titles already. They should be grateful.

I honestly don't care that he got those jersies. He's made so much cash for so many others he deserves a piece of it. Sure he's going to get paid in a big way very very soon now, but the way he's been exploited is pathetic.

Yeah that could be it too.

Youre absolutely right, I dont like him. Jealous? Of a selfish head case high school senior who plays basketball? No. And me simply saying that he deserves it is nothing to get your panties in a knot about. Simple fact is Lebron Brainless deserves it for violating OHSAA rules. Because the media is on his nut sack 24/7 you think he should be allowed to play. The guy is as selfish as they come, accepting a couple throwback jersies and ruining the whole season for his team and school. There goes your #1 ranking and any chance of a state championship. These are teammates that he's been friends with most of his whole life, playing high school and AAU ball with. This cat has a huge ego and takes the approach of "Im entitled to it all". You cant wait 2 months for it then?

The OHSAA has strict rules about high school (amateur) athletes accepting gifts. Lebroni even called the store ahead of time LOL. How dumb can you possibly be? And to think that there is definitely some shady deals going on inside the SVSM administration and AD (athletic department). Just a few days before the OHSAA ruled Jabroni James inelligible for the remainder of the high school season, his mother was apparently "cleared" of the loan she "claims" she got to purchase a 96k hummer for her son's 18th birthday. Now let me get this straight, she got a 96K loan? From where? What mother****in idiot would give someone living on public assistance a 96K loan in a soft economy? The shear ethics of it dont make sense.

Furthermore, does his mother even pay tuition? Probably not, our tax money pays for her son to go and play basketball. If the family can afford the lifestyle and dont pay tuition, then the SVSM administration is guilty of exchanging tuition for his ability to produce revenue for the school. That smells. If Gloria can her afford the little hummer for her son, then she can afford to pay tuition. This is the same woman who had a fit when the school wanted Lebron to pay $40 a year to park his car there. All his "people" want to do now is cry media and racist. Well boo hoo.

Just because a person is gaining vast media attention and drivin around all iced out and gettin paid means that Im jealous? There are more important things in this world, like integrity, something Mr. James will never have. Let's wait till someone busts his knee cap or he goes crazy in that H2 of his, then what? Back to the hood for you. Hell, 99 percent of the kids I see in the fieldhouse have better jumpers than Lebron Ames (cause he has no J). So if you love the kid so much, why dont you bend down on your knees and suck his dick. Lebron is not the second coming of Jesus Christ folks, so stop acting like he is.

well, that one's pretty easy to answer. she could easily get a HUGE loan based on the future earnings of her son. he's basically a lock for an NBA spot, and he's expected to do well with his contract, so a bank will give her a loan with the understanding that they'll have money soon enough.

It's even more of a lock than that. I understand his health is insured, so in the worst-case scenario he becomes permanently disabled today and still has enough money to repay the loan and live well the rest of his life without ever working a day. All because right now he's loaded with potential.

I personally believe he will be an extraordinary NBA player. This is not a Harold Miner we're looking at. He's got tremendous physical upside, good court vision, and is intelligent. The only question is will he turn out like a Michael Jordon or Kobe Bryant by keeping his nose clean and working hard his whole career, or will he turn out like Allen Iverson: a very talented player, good enough to win a scoring title, and maybe a MVP, but not a champion, and not a contender for G.O.A.T. due to lack of willingness to practice hard and give up the kind of lifestyle that damages his game in the long run?

    Only time will tell.
