Start the f@cking War already...

It's making my current hell of a job even worse and the one that I was hoping to get me out of it has now become a lost cause. Because of this damn "War" that never starts.

My current job is sales generated. No sales, no business and my boss becomes even more of an asshole. I'm not a graphic/web designer anymore. I am phone sales. Trying to get small businesses already near bankrupcy to order our products. And our market was hit really hard with the weather, market and Ashcroft's "Pipe Dreams". So they won't order, my call sheets pile up, and my boss rags me on it. My boss is a whole other story...greedy bastard.

The interview I had with a prospective sales position went great a month ago...but now the optimistic plans they had of expansion and hiring have gone. Yes, the economy, weather, other things have contributed...but he said that this dragging out of the war was the main catalyst. He now sees no hiring or expansion until this Iraqi situation finishes...but first it's got to start.

I have searched the web, newspapers and everywhere around my area for anything. Any job I'm qualified for. There's nothing. Graphic Design? Forget it. If consumers aren't confident and don't buy...why advertise?

This country is in the sh!thole. We need to start something...maybe even forget the war and get this country back on track or we're all f@cked in the long run.

Rant over...have to make phone calls...and ponder my existence...

Well the guy who's said that is just being dumb. Companies hire all the time. It can just take a while.

Yeah, but this "Hurry up and wait" isn't helping. The overall crashing economy isn't helping. Everyone I know in my field is out of work or working shit jobs. For the past 3 years. I have about lost my patience...wouldn't you? Consider yourself lucky Scott (talent not in play here...it's demand).

Hey, I feel for you guys, except for Gelding who has taken this heart-to-heart discussion about personal job situation and facetiously pushes enlistment as an "alternative" (or you are afraid to fight) spiel.

Personally, I could be doing some fantastic solid model CAD work somewhere, but currently I am driving cars at the Long Beach dock for $8.25/hr. There is actually a place not 2 mi from where I live that would be a great place to apply my skills, but they were only offering $17/hr and asking for pie-in-the-sky sort of expertise that are more fitting for at least $25+/hr.

hey, i love artman...yes my first post was kidding (since i know artman is an old fart like me), but i do believe in the good of service for one's country (and yes, you are right, i would take the pro-war stance of some people here more seriously if they actually served in the military...that voice would be a very strong one to listen to)

i am sorry for the economy and sorry for artman...working phones instead of working graphics must suck for him...i would love to have him doing what he loves to do...and i feel that for all the posters here....g

I'm not a lover of art Artman @_@.

But like a Sales person, isn't a professional artist someone that convinces someone else to want and possibly buy something that they weren't necessarily looking for.

No. He is following his vision which can appeal to other people but doesn't have to.

Artman I am rather amazed at your emotions running your logic. I would expect after 42 years that you could have rational logic. If the line of work you are in has dried up re-train. You will not be the first in the world. 42 is not too old. There is a great need for teachers and medical workers. If you are faced with a real financial problem change something yourself. You will be foolish if you think others will change your world for you. Please don't take this as harsh reply to your situation. I have no problem with you in any way and I want for you to do well in life.

Keep in mind that in the 90's the internet and e-commerce stocks went through the roof and people had this drunken party idea that it all could be done with a rising stock market that was (( NOT )) sustainable. In years just prior to the american stock market run up the Tiger economies of Asia had their crash. In their case it was their GDP's that grew at an unsustainable rate. 12% growth per year in fact. That will not last year after year as has been seen. Same with the american stock market in america in the 90's. It grew at such a rapid rate and to such a high level it was not sustainable. Some companies actually depended on earnings from stock holdings in other companies that company cash was invested in. When this all failed due to over-valued stocks we find outselves in reality once again. Supply and Demand. You can not blame the real force of nature in the market of Supply and Demand on President Bush. You should embrace the reality of the marketplace today and jump into an area that actually is in demand if you are worried about job security.

    Just my 2 cents.

    With much respect

I am sorry for you, Artman. My brother works in the same aera than yours and is 41. He has the worse problems to find a job. graphism, web designing is not good as it was. As you pointed out, when the economy have problems, the first sector that have problem is advertising.

He has so problems also, because (in France) after 40 you are considered old. That's ridiculous, but that's is.

Unlike Fship, i said that you where courageous to choose an other job, than you current one. Unfortunately that's not what my brother is doing. He should change his aera of work. Perhaps his work will suck but at least he will earn some moneys.

ok, if we are truely gonna be helpful....

two things artman...i know a few people in their forties who are going back to school because of the whole retirement issue...want a job for 15 years so they have some benefits when they hit 60....most going to either nursing or a techincal medical field....x-ray or ultrasound or something like that....is there a technical/vocational school near you? the good thing about ultrasound is that it is an imaging field which is nice for graphic minded people...all of them (nursing, x-ray, ultrasound) can be done part time so you could try doing part time graphics and part time hospital....

Thank you G. I appreciate the help. I was at my wits end at my job yesterday and with Mr. Rogers dying...

My sister went through the same situation in life at my age. I have to do the same if I can. It'll be a financial burden. But I'll try. I'll also contact the web design co.. Maybe they can hire me freelance/online? I contact them. There is absolutely nothing in Philly.

News Flash: creative people...don't come to Philly...we don't have anything...

    Thanks again. <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

true...or the fact that half the posters here are either under 16 or over 40....the people in the middle have cars and lives and girlfriends and lives and are too busy attempting alcohol poisoning over and over again to post here....or they have jobs....

We may be needing some graphic artists soon, or at least freelancers. But I'm in southern CT. Email me if you are interested.
