Fleischer laughed out of the press briefing room

I don't have any written source on this. I saw it with my own eyes on one of the cable news channels.

A reporter with a thick Mexican accent asked Fleischer if the US would consider easing immigration laws in return for Mexico's UN vote. Fleischer replied that America cannot be bought and that America does not bribe other countries. It was at that point that the press briefing room burst into laughter and Fleischer quickly exited.

Anyone else disapprove of this mockery the current admin allegedly calls foreign policy? We were a laughing stock to the world when we were hung up on Clinton's Chief Staff for four years but now this is worse. The current administration's mouthpiece is spouting hypocrisy and being laughed out of press briefing rooms. Ridiculous.

Go to <a href="http://www.cspan.org"; target="_blank">http://www.cspan.org</a>; and then click on "Ari Fleischer White House Press Briefing." It's at the very end.

remember when president bush first took office and he seemed to be meeting with president fox every two or three days?

apparently most of the promises and assurances given by president bush have been forgotten by the current administration.

president fox is simply using his vote to ensure that the united states follows through on the promises made regarding immigration and current alien status for mexicans living in the u.s. (from last weeks time magazine)

you know this administration has a credibility problem when we can't even get mexico to go along with us in the u.n.

the next administration is going to have to do a lot of fence mending for the current cowboys in charge of foreign policy.

OK I have just watched the 5 minute RM, it is not as described by the first poster, the laughter came at the end of a third follow up question on the Mexican issue when Fleischer said " think about the implications of what you are saying, you're saying that the leaders of other nations are buyable and that is not an acceptable proposition. Thankyou." Verbatim.

yes, but it does seem like the press was laughing at ari's statement, not the reporter's...

    ie..

", you're saying that the leaders of other nations are buyable and that is not an acceptable proposition", ari

"ha ha, that is classic...leaders not buyable?? sh!t" the press

yes, i find absolutely nothing pleasurable about the fact that our adminstration is a laughingstock...makes me sad...oh well, i am sure that room was filled with that nasty liberal press...how dare they laugh at a statement that calls into question whether leaders and nations can be bought....

just look at turkey...we couldn't buy them off with 15 billion dollars...maybe if we up it to 20 like they wanted in the first place....

nations and leaders are bought everyday...we just call it trade or diplomacy....g

Not accurate at all, read my verbatim quote above. Some journo's laughed but they're a cynical bunch as a rule and Fleischer had been saying for some minutes he was finishing soon and that there was a one question rule- he was not "laughed out of the room." Jeez i wouldn't vote for Bush in a million but don't try to make your points by falsehood and exaggeration.

I disagree. I did recall the quote incorrectly, however, the gist of it was just fine. And, I also disagree on another point. It did appear that he was laughed out of the room. That's my opinion. Deal with it.

The journalists were laughing at the assertion that foreign leaders couldn't be bought. How in God's name does that reflect on Bush?

How to get people from laughing at you to with you.

    Lesson #1:

When you say "think about the implications of what you are saying, you're saying that the leaders of other nations are buyable and that is not an acceptable proposition."

Add: "Hell. Look at Turkey. There is your proof"

that ari is playing straight man to the press...ari was obviously serious in his comments, the press laughed in his face, and he fled...it reflects poorly on GW when one of his boys tries to make a point (an insane point at that) and is not taken seriously...i would say not good, but it is good for the press to call him on his statements...

it is not a huge gaff...except maybe by the press...this admin is somewhat closed mouthed with the press as it is, this could make it worse....

and it will be hardly mentioned at all...not much to see here, but it was interesting to watch

The punk libs see him laughed out of the room.

The sensible conservatives see the truth.

Sure I disapprove. But, what are you going to do?

Hey, my wife was at a party recently and Ari Fleischer's wedding pictures were on the wall. Turned out it was his sister-in-law('s house).

    Brush with greatness.

Laugh if you want. It is a free world for some, for those that enjoy this freedom laugh if you wish or don't. Freedom..... I believe the Bush admin. is doing the right things for the right reasons that when viewed in terms of the long-term context outweigh what could happen if the admin did less than it is doing. If some think the situation the world is in is funny they are free to laugh. I would suggest that things are far more serious than to simply laugh at tactics the Bush admin. does or does not employ. For those who focus on mocking the admin. I would say you are distracted away from very serious events in our modern day.

I caught a little of this before the Mexican question came up. The corps was giving him a rough time about a statement he made earlier in the morning being different than what he was telling him at the time.

    That's a tough job, I think.
