looks like we nabbed a couple of his sons in pakistan near the afgan/pakistan/iran boarder. it wouldn't suprise me if already have him or know where he is and just using him to expose his own network.

Lt. Gen. Hamid Gul, former head of Pakistan's ISI: "High-profile people arrested in this way are never going to be presented publicly so many people would question if this claim is even true. From the Pakistani public many would say that the US and Pakistan are both in need of claiming success stories and this is what it is. Pakistan needs to prove itself a useful ally and the US administration wanted to claim a success story as it prepares to go in to Iraq."

This applies to the Khalid Shaikh Mohammed story and everything subsequent.

I think the more likely model will be what happened when the Turks finally captured the leader of their indigenous Kurdish terrorist movement. You remember his name? Me neither. Heard much about Kurdish terrorism in Turkey lately? Me neither. People talked in panicked tones about him becoming a martyr figure and inspiring Turkish Kurds to new heights of violence. Instead, after his capture, Kurdish violence quickly petered out.

Look, we aren't pretending we can or even want to fight "terror" on every street corner of the world. We want to fight those groups with international reach, particularly who can reach us here in the US, and those states that support them - for such groups cannot exist without at least tacit support from a state. The United States cannot stop every Basque who wants to kill a Spaniard, or every Palestinian who wants to kill an Israeli, or every Tamil who wants to kill a Sinhalese. Local conflicts have local causes and local solutions, which we can and should help the parties involved to resolve, but which we cannot take full responsibility for.

part of the reason why you don't hear about is because the turks can be pretty brutal with regards to the certain segments of the kurdish population to point that they make saddam look like a boyscout. they keep a very tight lid on what kinds of missions they run against some of their own population. we know it goes on but choose to turn a blind eye because a good relationship with them is very critical to our national defense.

Look at my post. Where did I say that the WOT was a failure? I didn't. I said that capturing Bin Laden would make it a success.

That SOB is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans and we've been hoping for his capture since 9/11/01.So as I said before, this would give us a big morale boost- something that is very important in these troubled times.

perhaps, that's why if they could capture him alive and keep him without exposure to the public or media . . . unless he repents wouldn't that be amazing!??!

ut anyway, it would be a serious blow to his followers

although it would likely spur many hostage-for-OBL situations . . .
