The record of most rumor sites has been atrocious for about the last two years. (About as long as I've been reading them) For them to sound a little like Kormac is only natural since 99% of their future speak is total pie-in-the-sky. They have nothing to print, know nothing about journalism (or even rumor mongering) so they really have no idea about how to go about getting plausible inside info. What to do then? Well you can invent BS, but that takes a little creativity. It's just easier to root around in some forums and archives and rehash other people's BS. The funny part is people start to see this recycling as a kind of confirmation. Sad, but funny.
Personally, I don't believe an iPod with CDRW is coming...doesn't make sense to me for all the reasons you guys have stated above.
However, how many of you would change your tone if this same iPod could encode directly from a cd without the mac? (again, I don't see this happening, RIAA reasons alone...just a hypothetical)
For me, I wouldn't find an iPod with direct-rip capabilities to be very compelling... I'm already maxed out on my 'pod 2x over, so I really need iTunes ability to make playlists.
However, an interesting turn of events in the RIAA/Napster trial: from Wired, Judge: If You Own Music, Prove It. Basically, it's unclear who's the owner of the songs, the artists or the music labels. I would love to see the artists get more control over their own creations. This should be fun to watch!
does anyone remember the original macosrumors site (also at www.macosrumors.com)? back in '96 it t'was if i remember right. that guy was insane -- uploading beta mac os updates, and he posted the first implementation of the quicktime mpeg extension back then. he had a fun site. but then he was snubbed for major credit card fraud (as reported by macintouch back then)! then many months passed and ryan meader came, and has been posting shit ever since.
Actually, I have to defend MOSR on one point. They were the only rumor site that was even close to the new iMac's enclosure. They didn't have the hinge down, but they did have drawings of a sphere connected to a screen on a stick.
Nowhere else was there anything close to the renditions on MOSR.
Also, they were one of the first sites with the Quicksilver photos last summer.
So, even though 99% is probably straight outa fantasy-land, a couple of truths have been posted on MOSR.
One of our very own was realy close, way before the MOSR thing, and since it's a virtual lock that MOSR gets at least half it's ideas from these boards, they didn't do too well, since they got the execution of the concept all wrong. Paging Mr. pscates, paging pscates... pscates where are you?
He not only predicted the layout, he made a decent description of the base (as a giant airport base look-a-like) before anyone ever thought of it.

It's like a bad car accident. You just can't help but look.
