$399 for a 4megapixel Apple camera seems a bit low. if it is true expect at least $499, and more likely $599. can anyone figure out how many high resolution pictures a 5GB drive would hold? how about a 10GB .

Well I get about 62 pix on my 3 megapixel Kodak using a 32mb compactflash. That's with JPEG compression on. The pix are very sharp and well up to holiday snap quality.
That means each pic is about 500kb.
Taking into account the extra size of 4 megapixel images, I reckon you could get around
That's funny. New metals that can withstand the heat. hahaha... The metals ability to withstand the heat isn't a problem, they make exhaust systems for many bikes out of it -- much hotter than anyone's TiBook. It's people's laps that can't deal with it.

If apple sold a 4MP camera for $399 with all the stuff mentioned in that blurp it would be the deal of the century!
Flipping through MacMall the cheapest 3MP camera I see is $499.
It's not all about megapixels though. You can't get a decent 4 megapixel camera without spending $700 right now, and that's below MSRP.
There are a few 5 megapixel consumer digital cameras out there, and even 6 megapixel cameras that cheat a little bit...with interpolated images.
I'd take a Foveon X3 equipped Sigma SD9 over a FujiFilm S2 Pro for example...even though the SD9 is only a 3.5 megapixel camera and the Fuji is a 6.1 megapixel camera.
I've gotta agree with what everyone is basically saying...an iPod wouldn;t be an iPod with an optical drive in it...it would have ot be as big as a portable CD player so I really see absolutely no point in that. All Apple computers now except the very low end iBook has a CD-Rw in it, and you need a Mac to use the iPod, so that is a totally bogus and stpid rumor IMHO.
Dropping the 12.1" iBook is pretty stupid as well. I would love to pick up the current iBook with a G4, faster CD-RW drive, a better graphics card, and a bigger (60 GB?) HD.
The camera would be cool. I want to get one by fall so if they came out at MWNY I would order one the minute I could, basically no matter what unless the specs really sucked.
P.S.--they could probably get away with like a 1GB HD in the camera, especially if it would make it any smaller (I don;t know anything about HDs...do they even make 1GB drives?) Besides, who needs 7500 pics?
If Apple were able to get a Foveon X3 chip in their camera it would be able to offer a 4mp camera at a $399 price point. They would have had to have an advance copy of the chip prior to Foveon's announcment on the 11th though <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
I'm sure glad the "insider" mentioned that he/she was sure the 12" iBook was going to be EOL'ed. It saved me taking anything else in the article seriously.
An iPix with HD does make sense. And if the viewer allowed QT video to be downloaded and viewed, we have our pocket cinema, albeit an expensive one.

I'm always concerend about storage or battery life with my current cameras. Sounds like this would solve both problems.

4 megapixels, .dv video, 5 gig HD and an LCD? Nah, I think the 599 price is closer to reality.
Dear god I hope they don't drop the 12.1 iBook. The second one comes out with a G4 I'm ordering. Especially if they still offer one at 1299! :eek:
