Yes, you can run the QuickTime Streaming Server on Mac OS X, or the Darwin Streaming Server (exact same thing) on Linux 5.2 or later, Solaris 7 (SPARC), FreeBSD 3.5, Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000 Server.
See the <a href="
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qtss/"
; target="_blank">QuickTime Streaming Server</a> page for details.

Look a little closer. In the
Download
section, it lists <a href="

; target="_blank">QuickTime Streaming Server 3</a>, <a href="
http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/streaming/"
; target="_blank">Darwin Streaming Server</a>, and <a href="
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qtss/preview/"
; target="_blank">QuickTime Streaming Server 4 Public Preview</a>. If you don't want to run QTSS on Mac OS X, then visit the <a href="
http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/streaming/"
; target="_blank">Darwin Streaming Server</a> page.
