Yes, you can run the QuickTime Streaming Server on Mac OS X, or the Darwin Streaming Server (exact same thing) on Linux 5.2 or later, Solaris 7 (SPARC), FreeBSD 3.5, Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000 Server.

See the <a href="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qtss/"; target="_blank">QuickTime Streaming Server page for details.

Look a little closer. In the Download section, it lists <a href="http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n75139"; target="_blank">QuickTime Streaming Server 3, <a href="http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/streaming/"; target="_blank">Darwin Streaming Server, and <a href="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qtss/preview/"; target="_blank">QuickTime Streaming Server 4 Public Preview. If you don't want to run QTSS on Mac OS X, then visit the <a href="http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/streaming/"; target="_blank">Darwin Streaming Server page.

    (edit: link mistake)
