Isn't this kind of like Apple not detailing iTunes profits during its quarterly calls? iTunes and Android are ancillary businesses...

This is a moronic conclusion and article. Typical DED. Google doesn't monetize Android the same way. So naturally, they won't report it the same way. Android's value is preserving eyeballs in the mobile webspace. Imagine what would have happened to Google if they hadn't launched Android and Apple had launched iAds anyway (it's not like Apple cares all that much about partners...see iBooks) or if Apple had failed to have as much success as it did and Microsoft had made a huge comeback, or if Apple had simply decided to drop Google. Android is a defensive play for Google. It ensures a good marketshare of the mobile web advertising market.

Next, Google has never broken down its ad revenues by category. To the best of my knowledge, it's not like they've ever said, this much is desktop and this much is mobile. Just like they don't tell you how much ad revenue google+ or youtube makes for them. Or how much the Chrome browser makes for them. There's a good reason they don't do that. None of these things make direct revenue for Google. Therefore, this is no requirement to report them in their earnings report. They just drive more eyeballs to their ad services. And that's the business that they need to report income on.

By the way, Apple is purposely vague at times too. It's not like Apple tells you in their quarterly how many models they sell of each iPhone variant. They won't tell you how much iAds made. Or out of the iPods sold, how many are iPod Touch units. Google not breaking down revenue by service is not too far from that concept. They report income by division, which as far as Google is concerned is their own network, and their partner network. It's not by space, because it's not materially relevant to an investor whether the clicks that Google.com is getting are coming from the mobile space or the desktop space. It only matters whether google.com is making money.

It's exactly like that. Google reports income according to networks: their own and their partners. That's a sensible way of reporting income for what is essentially an internet advertising agency.

Apple reports income on hardware sales, hence they have to tell you how much money was made on different hardware categories.

DED is implying that Google should report income like Apple, even though Google has a different business model. That's stupid.

Pretty simple and not nearly as restrictive as the environment you'll find working in iOS.

On another note, apparently there were multiple reference to Android and upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich release. Perhaps Apple folks choose not acknowledge these key statements.

You use urban dictionary as a serious reference guide? "Rocket Surgery" is a play on 'rocket science' and 'brain surgery'... I thought even dumbasses got that joke.

    Damn, I didn't get it

Google, say goodbye to your mobile business model

Oracle is shooting for an injunction and if that does't work they'll be asking for a lot more than a buck. I've heard the figure of 50% of revenue for a licensing deal. And triple damages for past infringement.

If it were $2 Billion, Google would probably have already settled.

Google has more products than almost any company I can think of. Yes, they're dominant in search, but have diversified into so many new things in the past few years. I thought about how many Google services I use the other day- and it was scary.

I just thought of how many times a day I use google too.... big fat zero. And instead of SCARY my internets are awesome. Not to mention much less invasive of my privacy.

dumb asses usually don't' get it. Adding their user names to the "ignore list" in your "User CP" is the best way to not have to deal with their stupidity. BTW, the list works great as long as others don't reply to these trolls....

Because Google is friggin' stupid. They should help DEFEND the other handset companies. They should've all banded together against Microsoft. They all stand to lose money to Microsoft if they don't. But, they didn't. I have no idea why but it seems like they royally screwed themselves and just handed Microsoft their wallet. Pff.

None at all, ever. They are for people who have a need for some kind of undeserved recognition. It's like the think they are somebody now that their lifes story or the picture of them with no hands on the handlebars of their bicycle is on a web page. The only way most of them will ever be seen or heard outside of home or work by anyone other than their closest friends is through these portals. So it makes them feel good to think they are someone. It reminds me of the scene from the movie "the Jerk" where Steve Martin get so excited because his name is in the new phone book.

There is no reason to recognize mediocrity. Never has and never will be either.

Highly talented individuals are the ones that get the fame and media because they are exceptional. What you might also notice is that the people who don't "need" these networks in the way I have described have earned enough recognition through their deeds with out needing to parade themselves on a web page.

Here's some advice for the desperate needy ones: go out and do something exceptional and all the attention you ever desired will easily find you...

I do lurk about these forums for rumors of all the Apple goodness that may come. Occasionally I post too.
