Hopefully, this will get people to stop making Google out to be a great, benevolent corporation that cares not for profits and wants to make the world a better place. I've said it all along. The "Don't be evil" mantra is nothing but BS. Google is looking out for Google. They're in this to make money. The only reason they give you stuff for free is because your eyeballs matter far more to them than your cash ever could.
This only adds credence to the rumor that Apple will put together their own mapping solution and completely dump Google's services altogether. They're competitors now. It's time Apple stopped lining a competitor's pockets with cash.
And if we go by history, my guess is in 15 years Apple will own half the planet and they will be bailing out the US Government.
+1, SockRolid.! What motivates these anti-Apple fanboys to come to Apple-centric sites to poke fun at all things Apple? When I was in grade school, the less fortunate kids (not as popular, not as attractive, not as wealthy) would make fun of those who *had* because they were envious or jealous for one reason or another. Why don't they just stop looking through a hole in the fence and join us to see how much better it is?

you are preaching to the choir.
I own iMacs, mac minis, iPads, iPods, iPhones.... i can't even count....
but the simple fact is this. No company last forever. Apple lost its leader. Their time in the sun is almost over. I do not hope for it, it is a HISTORICAL fact that it WILL happen.
OWNED the gaming market and then spent all their time suing everyone instead of being innovative.....
Too bad you're claiming that the most innovative company will be the one filing for bankruptcy. There is nothing flawed about being the innovator AND protecting your blatantly copied innovative products. Furthermore, Apple has been an innovative company since its founding and have accelerated their innovation for over a decade. It's in their DNA.

I don't feel Apple was one person, sorry, which is why I am respectfully disagreeing with a fellow fanboy. Apple will not stay on top forever but 5 years does not give the company enough credit or respect.

At some point Apple will fade. But predicting their bankruptcy in 5 years is absurd. At this point they're moving towards Microsoft levels of inertial stability, wherein they could pretty much do nothing but go through the motions and still be hugely profitable for the foreseeable future.
And of course there's no chance that they'll rest on their laurels; Jobs left behind a company designed to relentlessly innovate and improve on their products. If Apple is going to leave behind its day in the sun, I'd expect you'd have to look further than 10 years out, and it looks to me like they have quite a few years of growth ahead of them.
It's unknown how -- or even if -- the changes could affect Apple.
My guess is that Apple used its huge team of lawyers effectively, and that it has clarity as to what charges are allowed by Google.
Indeed, my guess is that Apple will not be paying anything to Google other than what it already pays. If Apple's contract runs out in 2012, it is likely that the replacement strategy is already underway. But more likely is that Apple has a long-term option to use the data, and that the pricing was agreed upon years and years ago.
This may be an issue for new entrants, but Apple has relied upon Google for too long - Apple is too savvy to let pricing depend upon Google's caprice.
This makes no sense. Why would they release it in June after making us wait until October this year?
To believe this, one would have to believe that the only reason for the delay this year is that they couldn't get the iPhone 4s finished in time for June, which is a ludicrous assumption.
Or maybe they were trying to get the i5 ready, and that was what accounted for the delay.
Or maybe it was a software problem - SIRI is still in beta, iOS 5 was released well after June, and iMatch is still not ready.
Your guesses are not without some reasoning behind them, but they are still just guesses. The fact is, we have no idea of what is going on with Apple these days.
And if we go by history, my guess is in 15 years Apple will own half the planet and they will be bailing out the US Government.
This is more like it.
History shows, for example with Volkswagen, that the founder (Ferdinand Porsche) can build into his product such originality and integrity that the managers who later take over are driven even harder to perfect the design and engineering and make it prevail over ever larger territory.
Heinz Nordhoff, recruited from Opel by the British occupiers to run VW after the war, was so impressed by the radical design of the car that he gave up his front-engined, water-cooled background and relentlessly evolved the humble but charming Beetle into the most popular world car ever, over a period of more than two decades. He also oversaw the development of the VW bus, which extended the philosophy behind Porsche's design onto another iconic platform.
So you five-year doomsayers don't have a leg to stand on. Better to keep it to yourselves.
If we go by history, my guess is in 5 or so years Apple will be near bankruptcy and Google will be bailing it out.
No way. Apple has been hoarding the moolah, and could withstand many, many years of failing profits.
Apple is worth more than anybody. They are rich beyond belief. They are the biggest multinational corporation in that currently exists. Heck, when it comes to giant mega-corporations, nobody has ever come close.
Not General Electric, not Standard Oil, not US Steel, not Microsoft.
Apple is the strongest, biggest, most bad ass corporation the world has ever seen.
I think that's the biggest consideration. This sure makes it harder for people to trust Google's "free" software and services.
Google is not going to charge "people" anything.
Big multi-national mega-corporate conglomerates might be concerned, but Apple has so many lawyers that I don't think they have anything to worry about.

Google with Maps (and Android and lots of their other products) has been using the same strategy as Microsoft with IE - give it away until you have driven most of the competition out of business, and then monetize it from a near-monopoly.

"Next Summer's iPhone" won't likely be released until next Fall.
"The next one" is always great.
"The most recent one" disappointed lots of people.

(Apple for example will still have the best hardware
According to many opinions I have heard, Samsung currently has the best hardware, producing both the Galaxy SII and the Galaxy Nexus.
